The latest Injury Update for the Denver Nuggets vs. the Brooklyn Nets
FOR THE NUGGETS
Denver is in the playoffs and has won the Northwest Division, but the team is going through a rough patch.
From January 5 to March 6, the Nuggets won 22 of 28 games. Since then, they have lost five of their last six games.
Denver ended its worst losing streak of the season, which was four games, with a 119-100 win in Detroit on Thursday night. However, the Nuggets had trouble in the last few minutes of their 116-110 loss in New York on Saturday.
The Nuggets shot 51.2%, which was the fourth game in a row where they shot at least 50%.
Denver shot 54.5 percent and scored 91 points in the first three quarters, but in the fourth, they missed 11 of 18 shots and were only able to score 19 points. In the last few minutes of the third quarter, they were outscored 16-5.
Jokic scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but in six of his last seven games, he has been held to less than 15 rebounds.
On Saturday, he was 2 for 6 from the field and grabbed two boards in the fourth quarter. This was the last quarter of a game in which Denver was outrebounded 43 to 33. He will for sure play in this game against the Nets on Sunday.
Injury for the Nuggets
Gillespie (lower leg) could play against the Nets on Sunday.
Gillespie hasn’t played yet this season because he is still recovering from surgery on his lower leg. His next chance to play is Sunday against the Nets, but there is no word on when he will be back.
FOR THE NETS
Even though the Brooklyn Nets have been playing better lately after a rough patch with their new players, they are still having trouble getting rebounds on a regular basis.
The Nets lost on the boards in their first game of a crucial four-game homestand against the Sacramento Kings. On Sunday afternoon, when Nikola Jokic and the suddenly struggling Denver Nuggets come to play the Nets, they hope to fix their rebounding problems.
Brooklyn is 29th in the league with an average of 40.3 rebounds per game.
The Nets have been outrebounded in three straight games and five of their last six. On Thursday, they lost 101-96 to Sacramento and didn’t get any second-chance points because they were outrebounded 57-41.
One of their problems was that they couldn’t stop Sacramento star Domantas Sabonis from getting 21 rebounds and a double-double by the end of the first half.
Last week, they barely won a game in Denver by a score of 122-120. The Nets were outrebounded 49-28, and Jokic was given 20 boards.
As of Sunday, Brooklyn has won five of its last eight games and is two games behind the New York Knicks for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Simmons won’t play against the Nuggets on Sunday because of his knee and back, says Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.
Simmons will miss his 13th straight game because of injuries to his left knee and back, but he is getting close to playing again after getting back to on-court work on Thursday.
Even though he still doesn’t have a timetable for coming back, he will get another chance to play Tuesday against the Cavaliers.
