The New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings wrap up their two-game regular-season set, and the Knicks aim for their fifth straight victory over the Kings.
Update injury for New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings
The Knicks are hoping to start a new winning streak against the Kings.
The New York Knicks’ season-best nine-game winning streak was derailed by one of the NBA’s worst teams.
On Thursday night, the Knicks will visit the Sacramento Kings, the league’s biggest surprise team. They hope to start a new run of success against the Kings.
New York’s winning streak ended on Tuesday with a 112-105 home loss to the Eastern Conference’s second-worst team, the Charlotte Hornets.
Since acquiring guard Josh Hart from the Portland Trail Blazers four weeks ago, this is the Knicks’ first loss.
Despite missing the previous two games with a left foot injury, star point guard Jalen Brunson made the trip to Sacramento for the opening game of a four-game road swing. It hasn’t been decided if he’ll play against the Kings.
New York has started Immanuel Quickley in place of Brunson for the previous two games. After scoring a career-high 38 points in Sunday’s 131-129 road victory over the Celtics in double overtime, he was held to 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting in Tuesday’s loss to the Hornets.
The Knicks will look to get back on track when they take on the surging Kings, who have won six of their last seven games and are now tied for second place in the Western Conference with the Memphis Grizzlies.
As a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in 16 consecutive seasons, Sacramento’s ascent has been completely unexpected. If they beat New York, the Kings (38-26) will tie their franchise record for most wins during a losing streak.
On Monday, the Kings defeated the Pelicans of New Orleans 123-108 at home.
Domantas Sabonis scored 19 points, grabbed 11 boards, and dished out 11 assists for his 8 triple-double of the season and 52nd of the year overall, putting him ahead of everyone in the NBA.
Despite his five fouls and six turnovers, Sabonis was crucial in Sacramento’s victory despite the absence of De’Aaron Fox (hamstring).
Sabonis has recorded a double-double in 10 consecutive games, with averages of 20.4, 13.0, and 7.0.
De’Aaron Fox, the All-Star point guard for the Kings, is expected to return from a one-game absence due to a hamstring injury.
Fox, who sat out the previous game because of left hamstring soreness, should be ready to play on Thursday. It’s likely that the star guard will take Davion Mitchell’s starting spot.
In his last five games, Fox has been on fire, posting averages of 32.8 points, 7.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in 35.8 minutes.
