1. Jalen Hurts

UPDATE (Jan. 15): Active

Jalen Hurts was reported to be in significant pain. The damage to the thick, relatively immobile ligament is painful, largely to force the body to acknowledge and protect the key area of the sternum.

If it only hurts when he’s hit, well, the solution is on the Eagles to figure out how to minimize that while still maximizing his talents in a playoff run.

Hurts gets the week off and again, there’s not much that can be done here. There’s been some suggestion that he’s gotten PRP injections, but there’s no studies on the specific efficacy there with this uncommon injury.

My expectation is that Hurts will play much as he did in Week 18 – in pain, but still effectively. It’s not enough to change my opinion on the Eagles as a whole, assuming the medical staff can get players like Lane Johnson and Josh Sweat better.

With the playoff schedule the Eagles face, the two weeks of play in the Division and Championship rounds, are the issue. Keeping Hurts as healthy as possible through that Division game is key, with only a week to get ready.

2. Teddy Bridgewater

UPDATE (Jan. 15): Bridgewater (finger/knee) has had a limited week of practice and is questionable for Sunday’s playoff game against the Bills.

Teddy Bridgewater and Skyler Thompson have both been hurt. Since dropping Thompson would alter line positioning, it is important to keep an eye on Bridgewater’s swollen finger after the dislocation.

Thompson is currently preparing to start, but the key indicators will come from Thursday and Friday’s practice sessions.

Bridgewater‘s ability to grip the ball and throw the ball is the deciding factor, with the knee being more of a nuisance than a serious hindrance to his performance.

Yardage props for Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill could take a hit, and there could be a three point difference in value between Bridgewater and Thompson.

3. Tyler Huntley

UPDATE (Jan. 15): Tyler Huntley (shoulder) was a full practice participant Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Cincinnati.

Even worse, Tyler Huntley’s shoulder tendinitis is still a major issue, and he has only returned to limited practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

Things can change rapidly in the span of a few days, but Anthony Brown still has a fighting chance to get another start.

That completely alters the offensive dynamic, even in terms of where Huntley was positioned. This could be a game-changer in a year where third-stringers have been more prominent than ever before (without the expected shift to a third “package” quarterback à la Taysom Hill).

Bettors should monitor Jackson’s status and Huntley’s injury reports before taking any action on this game.
