The second season of HBO‘s The White Lotus concluded on Sunday, with the identity of the mystery corpse seen in the premiere revealed.
The mysterious death teased at the start is finally revealed in the Season 2 finale
On her last day at The White Lotus in Sicily, Daphne (Meghann Fahy) chatted with some new guests before going for a swim… where she discovered a corpse floating in the sea.
In the Season 2 finale, Arrivederci, the guests prepare to leave the resort, but not before the mysterious death(s) are revealed.
Ethan (Will Sharpe) is lying in bed, imagining his wife Harper (Aubrey Plaza) having sex with his friend Cameron (Theo James) before getting out of bed.
Meanwhile, Daphne (Meghann Fahey) is on a video call with their children, as she tries to persuade him to speak with them, but he hesitates before finally agreeing.
Albie (Adam DiMarco) is in bed with Lucia (Simona Tabasco), telling her he wants to assist her and transport her to Los Angeles.
Dom is looking through old wedding photos with a twinge of sadness, while Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) wakes up in Palermo and finds Quentin (Tom Hollander) and the other men talking in hushed tones.
Quentin offers her coffee and inquires about Niccolo, as she stated that the entire night had been a dream.
She wishes she could take them all with her and inquires if anyone has seen her assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson).
Portia awakens in her hotel room with Jack (Leo Woodall) and can’t find her phone, claiming she needs to call Tanya, but Jack pulls her back into bed and assures her that everything will be fine.
Jack claims she left it at the bar, but she claims she had it last night while trying to find him on Instagram, but he claims he doesn’t ‘do that s**t,’ which worries Portia.
Meanwhile, back at The White Lotus, Valentina (Sabrina Impacciatore) awakens in an empty hotel room when a maid attempts to enter.
Mia (Beatrice Grann) asks Valentina if she enjoyed last night, and she says she did, but she doesn’t respond and rushes away.
Cameron and Daphne are having breakfast with Will and Harper while making small talk about some friends back home.
Cameron claims that people can no longer succeed because they might harm someone, but Harper simply calls him a ‘idiot,’ which he accepts with a smile.
Albie meets his father Dom for breakfast and immediately requests 50,000 Euros from him.
Dom realizes he wants it for ‘that girl,’ but he refuses, saying, ‘Albie, get real.’ Many people require assistance.’
‘Are you just going to go through life rescuing every desperate girl you come across?’ Dom inquires. ‘Well, good luck with that,’ he says. Don’t expect me to foot the bill.’
‘Think of it as karmic payment,’ Albie says as Dom offers 10K Euros.
When Albie expresses his desire for her to visit Los Angeles, Dom, amused, asks, ‘How are you going to make it in life if you’re this big a mark?’
‘I’ll assist you with Mom.’ Give me $50 and I’ll assist you with your mother. I’ll tell her how sorry you are and how throughout the trip, all you could think about was her, and how you appear to have changed dramatically. ‘Yadda, yadda,’ says Albie.
‘Would you do that?’ When Bert (F. Murray Abraham) arrives, Dom asks what they’re talking about, but they don’t say anything.
Meanwhile, Valentina arrives at the front desk, just as Isabella approaches and asks if she has considered bringing Rocco back to the front desk.
Valentina appears to be lost at first, but then remembers and agrees to bring him back, much to Isabella’s delight.
Valentina tells Salvatore to return to the beach club and bring Rocco back, which clearly irritates him. He asks where he’ll be the next day, and she replies, ‘Washing dishes,’ before he walks away.
Tanya is sitting with all her luggage in Palermo, walking through the villa again, trying to find anyone.
When Quentin finds her, she returns to the photo of Quentin and her husband Greg when they were younger.
She inquires about the other man in the photo, and she identifies him as Steve, who worked at a dude ranch, adding, ‘we used to go fly-fishing and drop acid together.’
Tanya says he resembles her husband Greg and that the resemblance is ‘uncanny.’
Mateo arrives and wishes to say goodbye to Tanya because he is staying in Palermo while Tanya and Quentin depart.
Ethan and Harper return to their room at The White Lotus, as Ethan is clearly upset.
‘You f***ed with him. ‘You f***ed him up so he could get back at me, but I did nothing wrong,’ Ethan explained.
Ethan insists they were doing something, and she claims she has no idea why the door was locked.
‘Haven’t I always been honest with you?’ she says, insisting she didn’t do anything and isn’t lying.
‘Yeah, but you’re lying now,’ Ethan says, adding that he can’t move on until she tells him the truth.
Harper sighs and admits, “OK, we did shots at the bar and yeah, I was really mad at you about the hookers and the condom and the whole situation,” before saying, “Let’s go upstairs.”
‘At dinner the night before, he kept touching my leg or something. I didn’t realize I was drunk. So we went upstairs, I let him in, he latched the door… and then he kissed me,’ Harper confesses.
‘However, that was it. That was it. You appeared right away. He entered the connecting door. He kissed me for about two seconds. It was insignificant. And I was inebriated. And I’m not even interested in him. Okay, he’s disgusting. It was a drunken, idiotic nothing. I immediately regretted it, okay? ‘That was the end of it,’ Harper says.
‘So you didn’t come up here for the hat?’ says Ethan. and she admits she did not.
‘And the real issue is that you’re not attracted to me anyway,’ she responds. You refuse to have sex with me. You invent excuses. You’d rather see porn. That is the issue. Cameron did not kiss me for two seconds.’
‘You’re still lying to me,’ Ethan says, adding, ‘I came up about ten minutes after you and you’re telling me all you did was kiss me.’
‘OK, fine. What happened if you didn’t f**k him? Have you sucked his dick? Did you blow him away? Was he able to get his d**k out?’
‘I told you what happened,’ she insists as Cameron storms out, looking for Cameron, but Daphne claims he went for a swim.
Ethan confronts him in the water, asking if he invited him on vacation so he could f**k his wife.
Ethan hauls off and punches Cameron as they begin fighting, with Ethan attempting to drown him underwater, but Cameron flips the script for a moment, beginning to drown Ethan as they both get up and a random man gets between them.
Cameron lays back and floats in the sea… going under the water as Ethan delivers one last punch before walking away.
Back in Palermo, Jack and Portia are eating breakfast while she obsesses over her phone.
‘I’m here for work, and Tanya is my boss, and I need to contact her,’ Portia says as Jack says, ‘Well, she can’t talk to you right now because she’s on the boat.’ They’re returning to Taormina.’
Jack explains that he’s taking her back to Taormina and wanted to show her around the island before they leave.
Portia borrows Jack’s phone and calls Tanya, telling her she saw Quentin and Jack and that they were ‘naked and stuff like that.’
Tanya says, ‘Well… he was kinda f***ing his uncle,’ adding that she didn’t have the heart to tell her before.
‘I have a bad feeling something bad is going to happen.’ ‘I’m not sure, I just have this weird feeling that something bad is going to happen,’ Portia says.
‘Jack got really drunk last night and he was saying how like, um, Quentin has no money, and he almost lost his house, and he’s about to come into this huge windfall or something, and Jack is helping him,’ Portia says.
Tanya recalls the photo on Quentin’s desk… when she pieces it together, adding that Greg insisted on visiting Sicily.
‘If we divorce, he gets basically nothing… but if… I die…’ Tanya says to Portia, telling her to meet her in Taormina, adding, ‘We gotta get the f**k outta here,’ when Jack returns, as Tanya realizes Quentin may be trying to kill her for her money.
‘I need to get back to Taormina, like— like right away,’ she says, but he says, ‘Your flight isn’t until tomorrow.’ Today is our last day together.’
He assures her that she does not need to return right away.
Daphne calls to Ethan while he is walking on the beach, saying he hasn’t seemed himself in a few days.
She asks if it’s work-related, to which he responds, ‘I think… I don’t know… Cameron and Harper… maybe something happened.’
Daphne looks longingly at the sea before returning to Will and saying, ‘I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about.’
‘I mean, we never really know what people are thinking or doing, do we?’ You spend every second with someone and there’s still this mystery. You understand? To love someone, you don’t have to know everything,’ Daphne says.
‘I think you just… do whatever you have to do, you know, not to feel like a victim of life,’ Daphne says.
‘You just use your imagination,’ she says, asking if they’ve been to Isola Bella, saying she wants to see it before they leave, and asking Will to accompany her.
He follows her down the sandy path to Isola Bella, and she smiles back.
Back on the boat, they drop anchor, and Quentin says they want their last meal on the boat because they’re as close as a big boat can get.
Quentin claims that her ‘paramour’ Niccolo will meet her on a dinghy and personally take her back to shore.
Back at the front desk, Mia approaches Valentina, complimenting her on her beauty and asking how her day is going.
Valentina asks if they can spend more time together after Mia says she will sing tonight. Mia agrees.
Mia, on the other hand, says she needs a ‘true lesbian lover’ and promises to show her around the clubs.
When Mia leaves, she sees Rocco with Isabella and greets him, and when the pianist/singer returns and is greeted by everyone, he is surprised to see Mia at the piano.
He inquires as to her purpose for being here, noting that she does not sing at his piano.
Valentina claims Mia took her place while he was in the hospital, but she claims Mia now has his job.
‘The guests prefer her to you,’ Valentina says before firing Guissepe, who walks out angrily.
Portia nervously gets into Jack’s car, asking if she’s been kidnapped and claiming he stole her phone.
‘Could you please tell me the truth?’ I know you’ve been deceiving me. ‘I know Quentin isn’t your uncle,’ Portia explains.
Jack insists Quentin is his uncle, to which Portia responds, ‘Yeah? As Jack tries to process this, he asks, ‘You f**k your uncle?’
He offers to take her back now, but Portia prefers to take a cab.
‘It takes about two hours. You can’t afford to take a cab. Anyway, my uncle compelled me to promise to drive Ya. You don’t want me in trouble right now, do you? Allow me to do my job. Yeah?’
‘How can I help you?’ ‘Like, you were just assigned to me this,’ Portia says, but Jack screams at her, telling her to ‘Just leave it alone.’
Tanya goes up to the boat pilot and tells him her entire story.
‘I know it sounds crazy, but my husband, he knows Quentin. See, he brought me to Sicily and then he left, so he could have an alibi. And then these gays, they take me off to Palermo and then they set me up with this guy who’s in the mafia and he’s coming here I– I think to try to throw me off the boat. They’re going to do Greg’s dirty work for him because he’s gonna pay them with my money so they can decorate their houses or some shit. I may– may be paranoid, but I need you to drive me in the boat, drive the boat to the shore. Please? These gays, they’re trying to murder me,’ she says.
As Niccolo arrives on his boat, waving at Tanya and strapping a duffle bag around his shoulder, the man at the helm doesn’t seem to understand.
Cameron and Daphne return to the resort, and Cameron casually slips an envelope to Lucia.
Cameron and Daphne join Ethan and Harper at their table as Harper sheds a tear, seemingly ignoring everything that happened earlier.
Mia runs up to tell Bert that she got the job singing her and gives him a hug as Dom, Bert, and Albie arrive for dinner.
Dom informs Albie that he completed his ‘karmic payment’ and transferred the funds, but he refuses to discuss it further.
Dom asks Albie if he could put in a good word for his mother, and Albie says he already has.
Bert returns and tells them that when Mia hugged him, he became ‘aroused,’ adding, ‘Our Achilles heel is an Achilles c**k.’
As he rushes off to be with Lucia, Albie says he’ll skip dinner.
Cameron proposes a toast to a “amazing trip,” adding, “Who would’ve known that all these years later, we’d still be in each other’s lives when some… flunky in the housing office at Yale decided to put me and E in the same dorm room?” Man, I think that’s pretty cool. And, Harper, it’s been a pleasure finally getting to know you properly.’
Cameron raises a glass to “friendship.” To go traveling. To a happy life. ‘Cheers,’ Daphnie says, ‘The Maldives next year.’
Albie walks over to Lucia and tells her to check her bank account while she squeals with delight.
Back on the boat, Quentin expresses her desire for Tanya to have a “magical time,” adding that they are all jealous.
Niccolo appears and sits next to her, and Quentin tells her that Niccolo can take her back at any time.
Tanya requests more white wine, and Quentin responds that they have “all the time in the world” and lights a cigarette.
Ethan and Harper return to their room, with Harper wondering, ‘Ethan… what’s going to happen to us?’
Ethan approaches her and strokes her face before kissing her neck and removing her dress… until they knock over the porcelain statue in the room.
While Dom is alone in his room, Albie and Lucia are in it, thanking him before they kiss.
He calls Albie’s mother and is surprised when she answers.
‘Listen… I can’t talk right now, but please call me when you return to town,’ she says, as he promises.
Before getting out of the car to smoke, Jack appears to come to a complete stop in the middle of nowhere.
Portia inquires as to where they are, and she states that she assumed he was going to take her back to Teremina.
He tells her they’re not going to Teremina and that they’re near the airport. He tells her she shouldn’t go to the hotel because these are “powerful people” who she shouldn’t mess with.
He tells her he knows she’s smart and that she shouldn’t be stupid before getting in his car… and then he throws her phone out the window.
Tanya returns to the yacht, says she needs to use the restroom, and grabs the black duffel bag Niccolo brought on board, opening it to find a rope, tape, and a gun.
They chase her down and pound on the door, thinking Quentin wants to talk to her… but Niccolo bursts through the door and Tanya shoots him twice while crying.
She walks through the boat, firing the gun at random… as she appears to have hit everyone, she fires a round through Quentin’s heart.
‘Does Greg have an affair?’ Tanya inquires, adding, ‘Tell me, I know you’re aware.’ ‘Please tell me!’ Tanya tries to shoot at one of the other men, but the gun is empty as he jumps into the sea.
Tanya finds the dinghy and attempts to jump onto it from the boat, but she fails and sobs.
She tries again, this time getting her legs over the railing and telling herself, ‘You got this,’ before slipping, hitting her head on the railing, and falling into the sea.
When the scene shifts to the next morning, Tanya is seen floating lifeless in the depths of the sea.
Lucia is dressed and attempting to sneak out of Albie’s room, smirking and looking back at him before leaving, as the sound of the door closing awakens Albie.
The episode returns to the premiere, where Daphne discovers a body in the sea… which is revealed to be Tanya as the body is loaded into a vehicle.
Back at the airport, Dom, Bert, and Albie are all smiling and eyeing another Italian woman before heading to their terminal.
They pass Tanya as she heads to her flight, picking up a pair of sunglasses.
Cameron and Daphne appear content in the terminal, as do Ethan and Harper, and Portia discovers Albie.
She inquires about his family, to which she responds that they are ‘right over there,’ and she claims that her boss is not answering her phone.
‘Oh, did you hear one of the hotel guests drowned?’ It was insane. ‘They found a bunch of dead bodies on the yacht as well,’ Albie says.
He inquires about Palermo, and she states that it was “not great,” and Albie admits that the girl “played me.”
With a smile, Portia asks for his phone number as they exchange phones.
Meanwhile, back in Sicily, Lucia and Mia give hugs to the man mistaken for her pimp – who is actually a doorman at another hotel – as they become lost in the crowd as the episode and season two come to an end.
