Three of Atlanta’s top cornerbacks, Isaiah Oliver, Casey Hayward, and A.J. Terrell, have all been injured in recent weeks.
Oliver has returned from injury, but Hayward will be out for an extended period of time after being placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and Terrell’s status is still unknown.
Terrell missed last week’s 37-33 win over the Carolina Panthers due to a hamstring injury he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 before reinjuring himself the following week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Terrell missed practice for the second time this week on Thursday, putting his availability for Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff against the Los Angeles Chargers in doubt.
With injuries at cornerback piling up, the Falcons made a trade before the NFL trade deadline Tuesday, acquiring veteran corner Rashad Fenton from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.
Despite a slew of injuries on the defensive side of the ball, there is reason to be optimistic on offense.
Cordarrelle Patterson, the running back, returns from an injury reserve stint. Patterson has missed the last four games after undergoing minor knee surgery following a Week 4 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
The Falcons and Chargers meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
