Robbie Coltrane died on Friday at the age of 72, according to his agent. His most recent photo showed him deep in conversation with Harry Potter co-star Emma Watson.

Robbie Coltrane converses with Emma Watson in his final photograph before his death
Robbie, who played Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series, passed away on Friday at the age of 72. His agent confirmed the news.
Robbie was most recently seen filming Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which was released in January of this year.
Robbie was deep in conversation with Emma, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, as they sat at a dinner table in the photo. Emma, wearing all white, smiled as she listened to the actor speak.
On the show he revealed the following:
“It’s the end of an era. Ten years of my life. My children have grown up during it,” he said.
“The legacy of the movies is that my children’s generation will show them to their children… So, you could be watching it in 50 years time, easily… I’ll not be here, sadly… but Hagrid will, yes.”
During the two-hour special, his co-stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma, discussed how much fun Robbie was on set.
The cast paid tribute to the incredible actor after learning of his death, with Emma sharing the last photo of him on her Stories.
“Robbie was like the most fun uncle I’ve ever had but most of all he was deeply caring, and compassionate towards me as a child and an adult. His talent was so immense it made sense he played a giant,” she said.
“His talent was so immense it made sense he played a giant – he could fill ANY space with his brilliance. Robbie, if I ever get to be so kind as you were to me on a film set, I promise I’ll do it in your name and memory, know how much I adore and admire you.”
“I’ll really miss your sweetness, your nicknames, your warmth, your laughs and your hugs. You made us a family. Know you were that to us. There was no better Hagrid. You made it a joy to be Hermione.”
Daniel also called him ‘one of the funniest people’.
“Robbie was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set,” he said.
“I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner of Azkaban when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up.”
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.”
James Phelps, who played Fred Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, recalled his first encounter with the actor.
“I will miss the random chats about all subjects under the sun,” he tweeted.
“And I’ll never forget in September 2000, Robbie Coltrane came over to a very nervous 14yr old me on my 1st ever day on a movie set and said: ‘Enjoy it, you’ll be great’. Thank you for that.”
