There is no denying it – getting older is a scary process and while there are plenty of perks, there are just as many drawbacks. These 5 celebrities have candidly admitted that they fear becoming old because they worry about what the future has in store for them. Some don’t want to be lonely in their old age, while others fear for their careers or even just their looks fading.
Bianca fears being alone in old age: “I fear decay and decline. I am scared to grow old alone. I love the idea of (falling in love) but I avoid it. Being able to suit yourself, not being answerable to anyone else, is very addictive. I have friends who have been happily married for a long time, so I know it is possible and how happy it makes them. But, yes, I avoid it. I am always travelling. I can’t give time to it.”
George doesn’t want people to think he’s too old to matter so he’s working to establish himself even more: “I’m in a position that I know doesn’t last very long. I know there is only a very small window of opportunity before they start saying, ‘Well he’s a little too old now. We don’t want to see him doing love scenes anymore, so we’ll kick him into the character-actor world.’ And with that goes a lot of your clout.”
Jay Z thinks older rappers often lose fans and it worries him: “The reason you turn off the hip hop as you mature is because there’s not enough of what you’re going through in your life currently. There’s not a lot of people who have come of age in rap because it’s only 30. As more people come of age, hopefully the topics get broader and then the audience will stay around longer.”
Jon worries about how he’ll change as he gets older: “Let me tell you, I am so worried. I look at guys like Sting and think, ‘Well, he’s cool about losing his hair,’ but I’m already losing a bit and I’m so aware of it. Someone told me that you have to regularly massage your scalp so I do that all the time. You look like a jerk but it’s got to be worth a shot.”
Rosamund doesn’t want to lose her looks: “My mother told me how it feels when men no longer stop you on the Tube and tell you you’re the loveliest thing they’ve seen all day.”
