With Lindsay Lohan, Snooki, and their ilk constantly shattering the public’s faith in humanity, it’s hard to find a celebrity worth looking up to.
But they do exist! There happen to be quite a few out there who exemplify the definition of a role model, check out my picks for some of the more notable ones (all photos below are from INFdaily.com):
Matt Damon is an admirable humanitarian whose charity work has changed lives. Damon co-founded the H20 Africa Foundation in 2009, which focuses on raising awareness for clean water initiatives in Africa. The foundation recently merged with WaterPartners, another organization devoted to the clean water crusade.
Leonardo DiCaprio puts a lot of emphasis on making the world a better place, especially by leading a green lifestyle – driving a hybrid car and flying on commercial flights instead of private (a rarity for celebs these days). He received the VH1 Do Something award and donated over a million dollars to the recent earthquake relief funds and the wild conservation society.
Elton John established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which focuses on AIDS research and fundraising for the research. Sir Elton is also ranked as one of the musicians who donated substantial amounts of money to charities around the world.
Like Elton John, Alicia Keys works with organizations that help AIDS patients. She is an ambassador for Keep A Child Alive, which raises public awareness about HIV/AIDS and helps provide treatment for those affected by the disease. Alicia is also a spokeswoman for the Frum the Ground Up charity, which works to help Americans lead successful lives.
George Clooney makes eliminating poverty throughout the world one of his number one priorities. He donates millions of dollars to help the people of Sudan and is also involved in Bono’s One Campaign. Clooney uses his fame and earnings in a positive way – to help bring awareness (and funds) to the less fortunate.
Betty White has loved animals since her youth, and with the addition of fame, she can give back to the furry creatures. She is a board member and honorary president of the Morris Animal Foundation and raises money for many other animal care foundations across the country.
The celebrities with big hearts are the ones who make a difference and their efforts should not go unnoticed. If only all the celebrities out there used their fame and fortune for good, we’d have a better world.
