They may get a lot of attention themselves from the media, but these 5 stars aren’t willing to put their kids in the same position. Some have experienced what it’s like to be thrown into the spotlight at a young age and they’ve decided to keep their kids lives private because they don’t want them to have the same childhood as them. Others just decided to take a step back from the media once they welcomed their first child because they made a decision to try and give their child a normal life. It must be hard to protect a child from the constant paparazzi attention but these 5 celebrities all say they’re going to do their best to keep their children out of the spotlight for as long as possible.
Drew Barrymore
Drew was very worried about having her daughter Olive because she doesn’t want her to grow up with attention surrounding her life: “(I’ve been) crying for two months about having to take my daughter outside into this very tumultuous world that has no protection for people. I agree with other countries when they won’t allow the kids to be photographed. I think there has to be a limit and we teach our children boundaries, and yet the world doesn’t have any boundaries to our children and that is an anomaly that I do not support.”
Katie thinks her kids are becoming aware of the media’s attention and she wants to take a step back from the spotlight for them: “I believe Junior and Princess are now of an age where they are starting to become aware of the attention they are subject to and it is beginning to impact on them. If their lives remain in the public eye they could become the subject of unnecessary interest and attention of many other pupils, their families, strangers and so on. I don’t want that. It’s not healthy for them. I want them to live normal and ordinary lives as privately as possible, to enjoy their childhood without unnecessary and unwelcome attention, as far away as can be from public fuss and interest.”
Kim loves that her sister’s children are on the family’s reality show but she has decided not to allow her baby to appear as a decision she has made with Kanye: “I love seeing Mason and Penelope on TV. Mason is the highlight of our show, I think. From the start, as of now, that’s just a personal choice that Kanye and I have made…We’re going to try to keep it as private as possible.”
Lily doesn’t want her children to grow up in the same way she did: “A part of the way I became who I became was because I was subjected to a certain lifestyle from a really early age. My parents hung out with famous people, but we didn’t necessarily reap the same financial benefits. So there was a part of me thinking, ‘I wanna be like those people.’ And once I’d achieved it, it didn’t make me happy. So I don’t want to put my kids in that position. I’d rather set up businesses, put a roof over our heads, then move to the country to shelter them for a bit.”
Matthew has decided to raise his kids away from Hollywood so that they can have normal lives away from the paparazzi: “We’re raising our kids in Hawaii. For me and for my wife, it’s important that we keep those two worlds as separate as possible. I do the work, I go on a movie set somewhere, and there’s a short period of time where I’m sort of in the spotlight promoting the film. My kids are never really aware that that’s going on in any way.”
