Salma used her Mexican roots to inspire her own beauty line and discovered a key ingredient from her home country: “I knew I had herbs and things that nobody was using in the States or Europe, there is a key ingredient that is in a lot of my things. It’s called tepezcohuite.”

Zoe learnt to dye her hair with rum while living in the Dominican Republic: “I would soak my ends with rum and then I would go and play volleyball in the sun… and I remember one time my neighbour… came by, I guess to check up on us… and she called up my mom and said, ‘Listen to me, I went to check up on the girls and Zoe smelled like alcohol’. It worked. It (rum) would bleach it. It would go really auburny (sic) and sometimes really light.”
