Growing up, we all go through things in those awkward teen years at different speeds, and these 5 celebrities all say they were late bloomers. Some took a while to grow into their adult bodies, while others were afraid of the opposite sex, didn’t lose their virginity until later on and felt less mature than those around them. Some simply decided to take those things slowly because they realized how fast they were growing up, while others just naturally blossomed later than others and their bodies developed at a slower pace to some of their peers.
Anna Friel
Anna didn’t have lots of male attention growing up: “I was a late bloomer. I only had two boyfriends. I lost my virginity at 16 and stayed with that guy for a year-and-a-half. I was with (U.K. actor) Darren Day for two-and-a-half years, until I was 20. I was single until I was 24 and met David. When I was single, that was when I dated Robbie Williams. I wasn’t the girl at school who had all the boyfriends. All my friends were boys – but they didn’t fancy me. They saw me as a friend and I got used to it.”
Zac Efron
Zac says he wasn’t the hot guy during his school years and people thought he was a geek and he believes he was very awkward: “I wasn’t a heartthrob at school, I was a geek. I was a gawky 17 year old, a lanky, skinny, awkward kid. I was definitely a late bloomer.”
Pete Wentz
Pete didn’t know anything about girls: “I wasn’t sure where a girl’s genitalia sat, compared to a male’s. I wish I’d had a GPS (satellite tracking device) in high school because I had no clue where I was going. I guess on a man it feels like it’s closer to the belly button. On a girl, it’s further down. I’ll be honest, I was a super-late bloomer, and I was kind of a prude.”
Mischa Barton
Mischa says she was nothing like her character in the O.C. because she blossomed later on and was a virgin back then: “I hadn’t had sex ever. I was a virgin. I was a very late bloomer and I was terrified of men. I was in no rush to kiss a boy and I was in no rush to get a boyfriend because once you go down that road you don’t go back.”
Anna Faris
Anna says her body developed later than others and it made her feel as though guys were just using her to get to her more developed friends: “I was such a late bloomer. I had no boobs and looked so young. None of the guys ever liked me. I had two gorgeous girlfriends, and I felt guys were always trying to be my friends so they could pursue them.”
