While it’s easy to see why some stars earn the title of sex symbol, others are slightly less likely to take that crown and think it’s hilarious that they’ve been branded a sex symbol when they think the opposite about themselves. Some think they’re too shy or unsexy to possibly be a sex symbol while others find it funny because growing up they never had any luck with love and now they’re being deemed highly attractive! It might not make sense to them, but it certainly makes sense to those who find them smokin’ hot, because these 5 stars have all been called a sex symbol at some time in their career even if it’s just a big joke to the celebrity on the receiving end.
Chris O’Dowd
Comedian Chris O’Dowd doesn’t think women find him sexy and that he’s more of a sweet guy: ”I just don’t think women look at me as sexual. They see me more like a guy they would like to set their sister up with. I play very sweet characters, so people look at me like I’m the kid from the ‘The Wonder Years’, rather than Brad Pitt.”
Colin doesn’t find himself sexy so laughs when anyone else calls him a sex symbol: “I know that people did go mad and thought I was some kind of sex symbol, especially when I came out of the lake, but I’d never thought of myself as sexy. I still find it hard to believe. I thought it was a joke really. I still find myself wondering why anybody would find me sexy.”
Danny Glover topped a sexiest men list and was completely surprised because he’s never had too many girlfriends: “I should be about 150th on the list! These guys have been sex symbols all my life – I can’t believe I’m up there with them. My daughter would love to hear this because she’s so beautiful and always thought her looks were just from her mom. It’s weird though. I don’t know what it is. At school I never had girlfriends. I was so shy and people called me names. I was probably the most inconspicuous and forgettable boy there.”
Jessica laughs at her sex symbol title because she always had bad luck with guys: ‘When someone tells me I’m a sex symbol I’m like, ‘What?’ But I’ll take what I can get. That’ll teach all those boys back in junior high [school]. In fact, I hope my very first boyfriend, the guy I dated for one month and who broke up with me at the Valentine’s Day dance – I hope that boy reads this!”
Ray finds it funny because he just thinks he’s fat and old: ”I don’t know what’s appealing to women – I’m a 55-year-old fat man.I think it’s the way you treat women that makes you sexy. You’ve got to be genuine, you’ve got to be a bit of a gentleman and a little bit of a rogue at the same time. But if people think I’m a sex symbol, fantastic.”
