Magazines are always focusing on fashion trends and how to wear them – but do you have to follow fashion religiously to look stylish? For these 5 stars, they’d prefer to do their own thing when it comes to getting dressed. Some like to express their own taste or show off their vintage finds, while others are just happy with the look they’ve got and aren’t interested in changing it every season. One star tried to follow fashion but believes it just didn’t suit her, while others love fashion but don’t have the time to keep up with what’s fashion-forward.
Amy Adams
Amy tried to follow trends but she says it didn’t suit her: “I did go through a period of trying to keep up with the trends. But not all of it works. At all. That oversize, no structure thing? I don’t look boho chic doing that – I actually look like a homeless person. I love clothes, I love fashion and I love those girls who have effortless chic, but I don’t.”
Lily Cole
Lily likes to express her own personality and loves vintage finds: ”I don’t personally follow trends, I don’t even like the idea of trends. I think it’s kind of absurd that you have to change every six months, so I always try and buy things that hopefully I’ll like forever, and resonate with me. And I have fun with it, as well. I kind of see clothes a bit like role-playing, depending what mood I’m in. And I think, also vintage. There are so many great, great vintage clothes to find, there’s a whole territory unexplored there.”
Kate Hudson
Kate says her style never changes so she doesn’t worry about trends: “When it comes to clothes, my personal style has never changed. I’m very specific about the things I like – a lot of printed dresses, lots of different textures. I can’t get away from flowing things. I don’t like clothes that constrict me. It’s, like, ‘Would you like to put some clothes on?’ ‘No, I wouldn’t!'”
Emma Watson
Emma doesn’t want to look like everyone else so avoids trends: “I don’t follow trends much, because I don’t like to dress like everybody else. I think that’s why I hate trends, actually. But I do like to read fashion magazines so I don’t feel so isolated. I think my own style is classic and simple. I try to be elegant, but at the same time laid back and relaxed. If what you’re not feeling what you’re wearing or if you’re not sure, don’t wear it.”
Carey Mulligan
Carey has a great respect for fashion but doesn’t follow it too closely: “I love clothes. In a way I have a much better understanding of the artistry involved in designing than I did two year ago but I don’t follow fashion all the time. I don’t take an active interest and go to fashion shows or anything. Not because I don’t think they are all brilliant at what they do, but I really don’t mind what I wear as long as it’s sort of knee-length.”
