These 5 actors and actresses aren’t worried about having successful careers because they have other interests that they feel are more important. Making a film that is commercially a hit is one of the most important parts of becoming a success, but one of these actors would prefer to work on a film he loves than to make a big blockbuster just for the sake of it. Happiness isn’t always about career success, and these 5 film stars have all sussed that out, opting not for the big bucks, but for things that make them smile instead.
Kevin Costner
Kevin doesn’t do anything if he isn’t in love with it no matter how much money is involved, and has learned to live with failure: “I’m not afraid to fail and I’m not overly impressed with success. I’ve learned that failure doesn’t kill you.I haven’t worked for a really long time because I tend to make movies that aren’t sequels, so I’m not exactly in vogue. I can make a movie for $6 million, but most of the time it’s going to be around $30 million or $40 million and Hollywood is very leery of movies that cost between $10 million and $150 million dollars. I won’t make a movie unless I have the ability to do it the way I want, so I hold my breath for a long time. At this point in my life, I don’t want to make a movie I don’t want to make or one that gets manipulated in a way I don’t feel comfortable with.”
Woody Harrelson
Woody won’t star in any film he doesn’t believe in and isn’t worried about career success because he is after personal satisfaction: “Maybe the fact that I only take on roles I completely believe in. There are people in Hollywood who would kill their grandmother if it helped their career. I’m not interested in being successful, though.”
Naomi Watts
Naomi has reevaluated what is important after achieving career success after years of working: “Acting is such an uncertain kind of life. You struggle so much at the beginning of your career – at least I did – and then you suddenly find yourself working all the time and after six or seven years you realise that maybe work and success isn’t everything.”
Leighton Meester
Leighton is hoping to find happiness and isn’t concerned about her career because she doesn’t believe that is a measure of how good life is: ”You can’t count on success in this business. And anyway, being famous or rich or making a certain kind of movie – none of that means ‘success’ to me. Success to me is being happy and fulfilled, truly fulfilled, and being proud of myself and doing different things all the time. So thus far, yes, I’ve been successful.”
Kristen Stewart
Kristen wishes Hollywood wasn’t influenced by commercial success because she only does what she loves:”I couldn’t imagine doing a project with the idea of how it’s going to affect people. It really has to affect you first, and if it does, then maybe it will affect other people … I think that people who don’t have that are clearly choosing things to become famous actresses. They’re clearly choosing things to make money. I mean, I love Los Angeles – I love living here. But I wish that we could make things without the need to hit a home run every single time.”
