5 Celebrities Who’ve Struggled With Bipolar Disorder

Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine has been dealing with it for a long time now: “(Bipolar) is something I have been dealing with for a long time. When you get sideswiped like that (with Douglas’s illness) it’s an obvious trigger for your balance to be a little off — not sleeping, worry, stress. It’s a classic trigger. I never wanted to be as open about it as I was. I have a British stiff-upper-lip mentality — it wasn’t something I wanted to shout from the rooftops. But when it did come to light, I know I’m not the only person who suffers with it or has to do deal with it on a day-to-day basis.”

Demi didn’t know she was bipolar until she went for treatment: “I never found out until I went into treatment that I was bipolar. Looking back it makes sense. There were times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I’d be up until 05.30 in the morning. I feel like I am in control now where my whole life wasn’t in control.”
