Mariah says low self-esteem has always been an issue for her throughout her entire life: “I have had very low self-esteem my whole life. When I was 12 or 13, I remember walking up the driveway, and this guy who was 20 – which may have been highly inappropriate – said to me, ‘I like your pants,’ and I was like ‘Oh, that looks good? Oh, OK, I will wear tight pants now.”

Victoria never believes that people are interested in her and often feels the need to prove herself: ”When I was on stage with the Spice Girls, I thought people were there to see the other four and not me. And when I go out with David and people take pictures, I think, ‘They’re here to take David’s picture.’ It was never my intention to prove anybody wrong. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I don’t have to work, I need to work.”
