Every mother approaches parenthood differently with their own perspective, and these 5 celebrities have spoken on the way they were raised by their moms. Praising their mothers for all they learnt along the way and how much they were given as children, these stars have shared the ways in which their mom made a big difference in their lives.

Gwyneth says her mother always educated her culturally as she grew up: “Encouraging culture. My mom used to take us to the opera and to see all these underground dance troupes. She wanted to show us the world and all of its enriching possibilities, and I love her for it!”
Jeff’s mother would give each kid personal time to spend as they wished: “She was this incredible mom. With each of her kids, she did something called `time,’ where she would spend an hour each day doing whatever the kid wanted to do, whether it was play spacemen or `Let’s go into your makeup, and I’ll make you up like a clown.’ And as a teenager you’d be like, `Rub me, Mom. Give me a massage.'”
Julia’s mother taught her to laugh things off: “Keeping a sense of humor about life. My parents divorced when I was 8, and whenever I felt down, my mom would remind me that a sense of humor gets you through just about anything.”
Rihanna is amazed by how her mother kept the family afloat and stable: “I still don’t know how she did it. She always protected us—she would never let us know when we had problems, even financially. I still got to go and get a perm every four weeks.”
Zoe’s mother taught her to be strong: “I have an amazing mother who’s a real tough cookie. She taught me not to get emotional about [sexism in Hollywood], just be really practical and objective. Later, in the privacy of my own home, maybe I’ll bawl or break some dishes, but you just have to keep going. It’s not about fighting, it’s about educating.”
