These 5 celebrities have been shamed about their weight by being called “fat” in the past. Either by critics, websites or even fellow harsh celebs, these 5 stars have all struggled with weight related issues and have even been called out for their weight on more than one occasion. Trying to deal with being fat shamed, some have hit back at their haters by saying that they are happy with their body and won’t change because of someone else’s ideals. Others had a harder time taking the criticism and some candidly explain that being called fat regularly lead to a distorted body image, eating disorders and low self esteem just because other people didn’t like their appearance.
Christina Aguilera
Christina has been called fat countless times but she won’t cave to her critics because she is happy with herself and so is her boyfriend: “I have a boyfriend that loves my body. I love my body, my son is healthy and happy and that is all that matters.Women, we are definitely under a microscope and under massive scrutiny. As long as I am happy in my own skin, that is all that is all the confirmation I need.”
Coco was often called out for being overweight and many people’s comments hurt her deeply: “When I was 18, the J. Lo (Jennifer Lopez) butt was not in. To have a booty was not the thing. You were considered fat if you had a booty… I was being cast in stuff where you’ll see all these really beanpole-looking white girls with blond hair and big boobs. That’s what I wanted to be… I was pulled aside during a Playboy photoshoot and a director told me that I needed to lose weight – that I was getting fat… When I heard that, I went into full craziness. I went and tried everything from diet pills to cleansing to everything you could possibly do to get rid of your butt. Bulimia – I tried that but I love my food too much.”
Demi has struggled with an eating disorder problem which she says started when bullies called her fat in school:”I think I was born with an eating disorder, because I’ve never had a relationship with food that was normal. I remember looking in the mirror with nappies on thinking, ‘You’re fat, change it’. II started overeating when I was about eight; I was a binge eater. I would bake a whole plate of cookies and eat them all. Then when I turned 12 I was bullied in school and they called me fat. I went from being an overeater to stopping eating and I lost about 30lb. From then on I continued undereating, but my weight plateaued.”
Kate was targeted by a pro-anorexia website that called her “lardy” but she refused to feel ashamed of her weight and says she won’t starve herself to be stick thin: “I’m not going to starve just to be thin.I want to enjoy life and I can’t if I’m not eating and miserable.”
Kelly admits she is still frequently called fat even though she has lost lots of weight and even fits an average dress size, proof that people are never happy: “I’m the thinnest I’ve ever been and the healthiest I’ve ever been. The totally insane thing is that I’m a UK size four to six and people still say I’m fat, I get called fat all the time. A big fat whore. Lady Gaga’s fans are the worst. They’ve said I should kill myself, that they hope I get raped. I mean it’s crazy but I’ve had this all my life and I just try and ignore it.”
