These 5 stars often find their own fame overwhelming. The pressure in the spotlight can be intense – especially if there is constant reports surrounding you or your relationships. There is also media pressure to sound perfect in interviews or to always do an amazing job at everything. These 5 stars have all struggled with a certain aspect of their fame. Many go down a destructive or rebellious path as a result (and worse case scenario may even end up dead) but these lucky stars managed to make it through and appear to be coping well despite the pressure to be perfect and the sudden shock of the spotlight which they weren’t expecting.
Cameron Diaz
Cameron is so private that she wasn’t used to the media poking into her life and found it distressing at first: “I’m a very private person, and I’ve never really sold my life to the public. There was this overwhelming pressure from all sides, and I just didn’t know how to handle it. My dad taught me how to fight when I was a kid. When somebody comes at you, you defend yourself. Now I’ve made peace with it. I realise that I can’t change it. That’s a part of what society expects of people in my position… so I will participate on a certain level.”
Drake
Drake believes it is easy to end up dead because things can get so out of control and many people look for an escape: ”You get artists who go crazy and don’t know how to handle it. There are people who have killed themselves. There’s the overwhelming stress, how tired you are, the weight on your shoulders of going out and giving 18,000 people entertainment … It’s a lot of pressure. It’s scary for me to say this on record, but artists are only human, and we seek validation like everyone else. You just have to come to the conclusion that it’s OK, there are going to be people who like you and people who don’t. Luckily, there are millions of people who love me and a few who don’t.”
Emma Stone
Emma can’t believe she has finally made it and thinks the whole process has happened in the blink of an eye: “I don’t know. When I think about that, it makes me feel so overwhelmed, for so long, it’s just auditioning and taking what roles come to you. You take the opportunities as they come. It’s also overwhelming to know what to do next. To jump and fail requires a lot of bravery that I hope I can summon up.”
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer melts in front of the media and often can’t think straight: “I’m afraid I’m going to go my whole life being scared like a chihuahua. It’s not my comfort zone. Making movies is where I belong. I shouldn’t be heard just talking. So, when I’m doing movies, I’m really happy. That’s where I’m comfortable, that’s my home. When you put me on a red carpet or on a stage, I turn into chihuahua Jennifer. I have no control over what comes out of my mouth. I would probably turn into a mute if I read what I said.”
Selena Gomez
Selena often finds it difficult but is glad to have close friends and family to help her stay grounded: “Obviously it’s an overwhelming business, especially for those of us who have been in it since we were very young and have grown up with it. But you just have to make sure you have good friends around you and your family there to support you. It’s important to have that support system around you to help you cope.”
