It can be hard to find the time to recycle, especially for a celebrity with a busy schedule, but it’s something these 5 stars have all said they are very passionate about. Be it just recycling food containers, passing along their old clothes to someone else who admires them or teaching their own children the value of going eco-friendly, these 5 celebrities are doing their small part in saving the earth and not wasting valuable resources when it’s easy not to. Some have even taken part in helpful initiatives to encourage others to do the same, such as gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, who has been an Earth Hour Ambassador in the past.
Amy Smart
When Amy Smart married Carter Oosterhouse, the couple didn’t want the guests to leave behind a lot of waste, so they took measures to make sure the day was as eco-friendly as possible. Oosterhouse commented: “Our wedding was very green. We had 220 people there and only one bag of trash, not even a full bag. We recycled everything, we composted everything.”
Danni believes in recycling her old clothes by giving them to other people who love them: “It’s important for beautiful clothes to keep moving. When I’ve exhausted a piece, it’s loaned to friends or given away. Our good friend the author Kathy Lette, has a daughter we adore and everything from basic denims to designer garments from my wardrobe and Kylie’s are dropped off when we visit. The Dolce & Gabbanas, I hear, go to all the cool parties, as every girl in the street books them in for a ‘dress date.’ Recycling is in fashion and fashion is in recycling, whether it is referencing style or, in our case, passing on the actual item.”
Jack Johnson rewarded students from his native Hawaii who had put a great effort into recycling. The students created an organic garden, a butterfly atrium and a compost pipeline from their careteria in order to improve their school’s recycling power. The famous musician arrived at the school without the pupils knowing and played a surprise concert to thank them for their hard work towards a such good cause.
Jessica has tried to teach her young daughter Honor the value of recycling and this includes her old toys which go to other babies when she’s outgrown them: “I talk to Honor about not wasting and recycling. I talk to her about having so many things and that there are children out there who don’t have what she has. So when she is done playing with something or outgrows something it goes to a baby who doesn’t have it.”
Miranda Kerr became an Earth Hour Ambassador and encouraged people to go green when possible: ”I hope my first challenge inspires my friends, family and fans to make their own promise for the environment. This year I’ve made the commitment to reduce my footprint by offsetting all of my travel. If we all adopt simple practices like recycling, switching to energy efficient lighting or paperless banking then we can make a difference together.”
