No one could say that being a mom is easy all of the time, there are plenty of difficulties and struggles (as well as rewards and happy moments) along the way. However, many celebrities make parenthood look like a walk in the park and rarely mention any of the parts they find hard, while constantly gushing about their kids and speaking on the positives – which is great, but it perhaps leaves us with a slanted view on the subject. These 5 celebrities have been more candid on being mom, admitting that they have their own problems and difficulties along the way. Of course, they wouldn’t change anything and adore motherhood, but those sleepless nights and energy-zapping days can be hard.

Alyssa finds herself running out of energy as her son gets bigger: “He’s been here [in New York] with me for the last seven weeks since I’m hosting Project Runway All Stars and the difference is amazing. I brought a baby and I’m going home with a little boy. It’s so crazy! He’s gotten so big. I take it day by day and enjoy all of my time with him. I’m blessed to have the kind of job that he can be with me every day. But it’s still freaking exhausting!”
Amy believes there are many hard parts to being a mom and she just does her best: “I’m definitely not one of those women who make [motherhood] look easy. I’m always running late – and look, there’s guacamole on my purse! But I’m more patient than I ever thought I would be, and I’m not hard on myself anymore.”
Hilary admits that being a mother is hard but also so rewarding: ”I love being a mom but I try to tell everyone it’s the hardest, best thing ever. It’s so unbelievably rewarding and I’m pretty Zen about it but some days it’s just hard. You’re tired. It never ends, it never turns off and even when you’re not with them, and you’re maybe having a weekend away or something, your brain is always going, so that can be really exhausting.”
Madonna says that parenthood can be a tough balancing act: ”I’m not going to lie – it’s hard work having four kids and doing all the work I do. Everybody has something to say about the way I live my life. At the end of the day I’m doing my best. If people don’t like it, then that’s really their problem. Sometimes I cope with it very well, sometimes it’s a struggle. It’s a challenge juggling everything — multi-tasking is my middle name.”
Molly finds losing sleep difficult: ”My first seven weeks as a mama have been both amazing and hard. There’s a lot of sleep deprivation involved, but I guess that comes with the territory! Brooks has been sleeping in two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half hour shifts, so I’ve been learning to nap when he naps.”
