Wanting to take on a role that the whole family could enjoy, these 5 actors decided to accept a job offer because they wanted their children to see them on screen. Saying ‘yes’ to a part that is more child-friendly than usual, these celebrities wanted to connect with their kids by sharing their work with them. Here is what they’ve said about selecting a part that their kids could enjoy and also be a part of.
Brad Pitt
Brad created ‘World War Z’ for his sons. He explained: “Listen, five years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about a zombie; today, I consider myself an expert. This whole thing started because I just wanted to do a film that my boys could see before they turned 18 – one that they would like, anyways. And they love a zombie. So, we settled on this book, Max Brooks’ book, called World War Z.”
Hugh started reading the script for ‘Real Steel’ with his son and took the part because his son was so caught up in the story: “I read this script for the first time with my son… I was like being a bad parent and instead of reading ‘Tintin,’ I read ‘Real Steel’ and my son made me read it to him for the next 10 nights. So, I knew we were on to a winner then.”
Mads was pleased to take on his role in ‘Clash of the Titans’ because his kids could finally see him on screen: “I love small little budget films but this is the kind of film, as I said before, I was watching as a kid as well. And finally I can do stuff that my kids can actually see. It hasn’t been too easy with the stuff I’ve been doing.”
Nicole took on her part in ‘Paddington’ for her young daughters: ”I just wanted to make a film for my kids… I hadn’t made a film that had made people feel good for a long time. I’d made films that are darker in tone. So, it’s really nice to be able to make a film where you can say, ‘Yeah, bring your kids’.”
Toby appears in the ‘Hunger Games’ films and says it thrills his kids that he is a part of the big film franchise: “I get asked every so often to go to Atlanta to film with Stanley Tucci, which is always a great pleasure because we improvise what we have to do. But I’m there for literally a day. I don’t feel a huge massive connection with the project. That’s it. My kids are both huge fans of it so it’s their thrill that I’m involved with it.”
