It’s hard to read any celebrity news these days without hearing something about Lena Dunham. The writer/director/actress has accomplished plenty over the past year. She directs and stars in the hit HBO show Girls, for which she earned 4 Emmy nominations and 2 Golden Globe awards, she signed a book deal for almost $4 million, and she’s blazing a trail for other funny, powerful women in the entertainment industry. It’s become obvious that Dunham isn’t scared to speak her mind and express herself, whether it be through her writing or her style choices. In fact, one of her most talked about assertions is that she loves her legs and she’s going to show them off whether you like it or not!
You may be wondering why there’s so much opposition to seeing Lena’s legs, and it turns out there are some harsh critics who think being subjected to the sight of her set of gams is the worst thing in the world! It all started back in September when 26-year-old Dunham attended an event wearing an oversized teal blouse with shorts so short it was hard to tell whether she was wearing bottoms at all. The media had a field day with the ensemble – they asked if she forgot to put on pants or if she was just crazy enough to think she looked good in the outfit. Lena wasn’t fazed by all the negativity though and opted to embrace her body for what it is. She recently stated, “I am going to live to be 100, and I am going to show my thighs every day till I die.”
While Lena’s lack of clothes has proven problematic for some, the clothing she does wear is also becoming a major talking point. While it’s common for most stars to be sent free clothes from designers in exchange for nothing but publicity, Dunham is surprised she gets the same perks. Designers are recognizing the actress’s true size and are sending her figure-flattering pieces for her to wear to events. Of her newly expanded wardrobe, she says,
“I cannot deny it, and I cannot get over it. And they actually send them in my size. No one’s being an asshole and sending them to me in a 4. They’re sending me clothes, they fit, and what people should know is that I always wear them. Somehow even if I wouldn’t have bought it, the fact that it was free and my grandma’s depression-era mentality make me think it is the most beautiful thing I ever owned, and I wear it for several days straight.”
