Mascara – it’s one of the most simple makeup items that forms the basis of almost every beauty look and even if you want it to look subtle and natural, it’s best to know how to apply it properly. Start off by opening up your eyes – use an eyelash curler to gently curl your lashes before applying any mascara. This will make sure all of your lashes are already curled up in the right direction and ready for a layer of mascara to be applied.
To apply mascara properly, first remove excess product by scrapping the wand off in the tube until the desired amount is left. Next, place the wand at the base of your lashes, gently zig-zagging to separate lashes and curl. Sweep upwards to apply a first layer. For a more dramatic or clumpy Twiggy-esque look, try blinking down a little harder on the wand as you simultaneously sweep upward with the wand – more product will stick to your lashes and the look will be intensified. Apply another coat or two and give each layer a minute or two to try if possible in between. To apply to your lower lashes, try using the wand at an upward angle for those harder to reach lashes.
To complete your look, try to ‘tightline’ – this means to apply a layer of black eyeliner just above and below (on the inner waterline, be careful – it takes practice) your lashes, filling in the spaces between the individual hairs. This makes your lashes look thicker and fuller instantly. Don’t forget to gently remove mascara and eye makeup before bed so you don’t wake up to panda eyes the next morning!
