TOP SONGS OF 2009

For the third year in a row, I’m counting down my favorite tunes of 2009.  Click the link to see what’s on the list!

20. 3 – Britney

Britney’s single from her greatest hits CD has been pretty controversial, and not even for it’s racy lyrics.  It seems like 3 is a love it or hate it song!  I can understand that ot an extent; I wasn’t a big fan when I first heard the snippets, but I love it now, especially the way it gets faster and more pulsating as it goes along.

19. Dead & Gone – TI ft/JT

I’m not a big fan of rap music but every once in a while a good one comes along.  I will admit though, that it’s mainly the chorus of the song I like, but I also like the songs positive message.

18. Love Story – Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been on FIRE this year!  “Love Story” is the first of her songs I fell in love with (the pop remix, at least).  It’s got a cute storyline and it’s fun to sing along with.  And the video is too cute.

17. Run This Town – Jay Z, Rihanna, Kanye West

16. No Surprise – DAUGHTRY

Once again, DAUGHTRY releases a solid first single from an album.  And, as usual, they followed it up with something sub par (I mean, Chad Kroeger? Really?).

15. She Wolf – Shakira

Shakira got a lot of flack for this song, and I can’t say I’m totally crazy about the direction her career is going in, but this is a fun and catchy song through and through.  It’s got a fun, throwback disco-esque beat and it doesn’t take itself too seriously with the campy howling noises.

14. Party In The USA – Miley Cyrus

This was Miley’s first certifiable hit, which took her from being a Disney star to a genuine, mainstream pop star.  The funny thing is, it’s not my favorite of her songs, but it’s still fun and catchy.  I think “with a dream and my cardigan” are my favorite lyrics of the year.

13. Halo – Beyonce

Every song Ryan Tedder writes may sound the same, but at least they’re catchy.  I’ve loved this song ever since I Am….Sasha Fierce hit the shelves last year.  Great, building ballad.

12. Right Round – Flo Rida

I feel like such a sell out including this in my list…but man is it catchy!  I kind of hate him for ushering Ke$ha into the world though.

11. Live Like We’re Dying – Kris Allen

This song has been stuck in my head since I heard the opening guitar riff for the first time.  It’s guitar driven, poppy, catchy, and perfect for the American Idol winner.

10. Sweet Dreams – Beyonce

This is one of those songs I couldn’t get tired of, regardless of how often they played it on the radio.  Love the beat and I like that Beyonce is going in a slightly different direction with her music.
9.  You Found Me – The Fray

I started to get sick of this song after a while, but in the beginning of ’09 it was my favorite ballad to belt out at the top of my lungs.  I think the connection with Lost is one of the things that made me love it.

8. Battlefield – Jordin Sparks
Does it sound like most of the songs Ryan Tedder has penned in the last couple of years? Yup.  Is it possible not to sing along with the call and respond chorus? Nope.

7. Love Game – Lady Gaga
The beat of this song is just insane!  It’s one of the best modern day interpretations of old school disco.

6. Obsessed – Mariah Carey
Oh man, this is MY JAM.  Some of the lyrics are just ridiculous but fun to sing along with.  “I can see right through like you’re bathing in windex” “You a mom and pop, I’m a corporation, I’m a press conference, you a conversation, OOHWOOAAAH ” I’m totally using that one in an argument one of these days.

5. The Climb – Miley Cyrus

So sue me.  It’s a GORGEOUS song and it actually has a good message if you take the time to listen.

4. Sober – Pink
It’s nice to hear a song on the radio with a bit of depth and well penned lyrics.  Pink has had one hit song after another from Funhouse, but this track is the best if you ask me.

3.  Paparazzi – Lady Gaga
If you ask me, Lady Gaga can do no wrong and she’s EXACTLY what we needed on the pop scene.  “Paparazzi” is my favorite song from The Fame; gotta love the boderline stalkerlike lyrics which (unfortunately) ring true in todays celebrity obsessed culture.

2.  You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift
This song is just irresistable! Just about everyone I know loves this song or “secretly” likes it …even people who ONLY listen to indie music.  Now that’s saying a lot.

1. Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

What else could possibly top my list?  This song is just A+, from the lyrics, the Hitcock references, the growls, the electronic sounds, even Gaga’s weird pronunciation. LAHV LAHV LAHV it!

WORST SONGS OF 2009

Sexy Chick – David Guetta “I can’t find the words to describe this girl w/o being disrespectful”…and yet you titled the song “sexy b****” :|
Birthday Sex – Jeremih
Say Hey – Michael Franti
My Life Wound Suck Without You – Kelly Clarkson
Whatcha Say – Jason Derulo Imogen Heap must’ve been strapped for cash
Down – Jay Sean  I wonder how a grown man feels singing music that was clearly written by a 12 year old girl.
Happy – Leona Lewis Ironically, it’s the most dreary and depressing song of they year.
Wanted – Jessie James
Turnin Me On – Keri Hilson
Transform Ya – Chris Brown
Tik Tok – Ke$ha Catchy? No. More like complete and utter garbage.
Fireflies – Owl City I STILL don’t believe this is a real song.
Best I Ever Had – Drake
