SYTYCD? 4 – Top Ten Dance Off

Jessica is officially out. She cracked two ribs and fractured one, ouch! Mia kneed her in the side, y/y?

This week the dancers are changing up partners, and the girls picked their partners out of a hat; one hat for each name.

Courtney & Josh – Hip Hop by Dave Scott
You guys know I’ve been waiting like, all season to see Dave Scott do something. I wasn’t really blown away, but I like that he adds some sort of a theme to his routines. Josh did great, obviously! But Courtney didn’t seem to be doing too much, and she looked kinda tarty. The end was pretty cool with the electrocution thing.

Mark & Kherington – Two Step by Ronnie and Brandy
Woah, okay watching that pregnant lady twirl all over was kinda scary. Anyways, back to the routine…UUUUGH. Lil C summed it up with his first phrase, “Um…ok” . A couple of weeks ago I was thinking it would be a good idea to see something country mixed into the show. Oh how wrong I was. That style is just so FLAT, I honestly don’t think there was any way they could’ve put any energy into it. But thank goodness for the red states. Now if only they had danced to “God Bless the USA” with a flag billowing in the background.

Comfort & Twitch – Waltz by Hunter Johnson
Mary said it “lacked power”, and that’s kind of what I was thinking through the whole thing. It was just came across as weak and their movements seems too small or something. And I actually thought the two of them had their cute moments, but that routine was total throw away.

Will & Katee – Broadway by Tyce
That was cute. Fun, lots of energy, and the boat was creative. And we now have every line and curve of Will’s chest seared into our brains, so that’s good. Hmm…yup that’s it. I still can’t bring myself to really get into Broadway, but Tyce really has been doing some fierce stuff recently. Oh and it’s good to know that Nigel did realize Will has seriously lacks some old fashioned je nais c’est quoi, not that he would ever say anything negative about him, of course. But personality!Will is a fab thing! Let’s see if it lasts.

Gev & Chelsie – Contemporary by Sonia Tayeh
Dang Gev is short. Okay, I’m liking Sonia’s style much more with this routine than the one she did for Matt and Kourtni. It was nice seeing a different kind of contemporary routine, this one w/ the stacatto movements which made it look totally different from the stuff Mia, Tyce and Mandy do.

Courtney & Josh – Rumba by Jean Marc Generoux
Better than their hip hop, but not as good as her Rumba with Gev. They actually have a better connection than I would’ve expected, but enough for a rumba? Eh, not so much.

Mark & Kherington – Jazz by Tyce
Well, that was pleasant. Not much else to say about this routine. But I think it’s funny that Nigel CRITICIZED them for dancing like they were “checking off boxes” when that’s exactly what they were given. Blech.

Twitch & Comfort – Hip Hop by Dave Scott
What? Am I actually liking something Comfort is doing? The world is coming to an end. This was definitely her best performance, and surprisingly the first time I’ve liked her doing hip hop. I think we’re gonna be stuck with her another week :/

Will & Katee – Pas De Duex by Desmond Richards
I’m still loling at the song choice; when did he even record that?? Okay, the song isn’t important. I know I was supposed to feel something from this, but I didn’t. Not at all. Technically it was great. But of course it was, the two technical dancers just *happened* to get it. The whole thing is just a bit too contrived for me.

Gev & Chelsie – Jive by Jean Marc Generoux
Fun, fun, fun. Definitely the best Jive this season so far. And these two are cute together, but I expected them to have a better connection. I think that’s mainly Gev’s fault, he didn’t seen to focus on her or something the same way he did with Courtney. Oh well, they were consistent tonight as a pair.

Solos:

• Chelsie, eh, what could she do? She’s a ballroom dancer.
• Gotta love Gev’s solos! That was fun to watch, I had no idea what he was gonna do next.
• Courtney was surprisingly good! Very dynamic, nice choice of music too.
• More BoRhap from Mark, nice! He really doesn’t move like anyone else who’s been on the show before, one of the biggest reasons why I like him.
• Katee’s solo was good; good choreography, used the floor well, but for someone who’s THE person to beat (from the judges perspective at least) I expected even more.
• Will – did Mia pick his music?
• Kherington dances way too girly for my taste, it’s like she’s just prancing and posing. She needed to come out and HIT it the way Courtney did.
• Joshua solo was cool but it just looked like a mixture of what Twitch and

Overall, this is probably the first week that I’m not rushing out to download any particular performance. But they really need to keep Lil C on as a judge. Its so nice to see someone who can express themselves in words and not screams.

Bottom 4: Courtney, Kherington, Gev and Mark

Tough one to predict, I’m probably going to get a couple of these wrong. And I don’t think Courtney should be in the B2, but I can imagine the viewers forgetting about her considering what some of the other girls did. If Mark escapes the B2 we’ll known how big his fanbase really is, becaues home boy didn’t do anything tonight, besides his solo but that was early on in the show.

I don’t know how they’re going to keep Gev, considering he’s too short to dance with any of the other girls. And it’s time for Kherington to go; at this point she’s the weakest girl left.
