Christina Aguilera - Candy Man Posted by Kim on 22 Feb 2007
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The video for Christina Aguilera's new single Candy Man. All of the videos from her latest album have been really creative, and this one is no exception. Also, if you look closely you'll recognize the guy she's swing dancing with as Benji Schwimmer from So You Think You Can Dance? Good to see him again.
This song is fun...if you don't listen to the cheestastic lyrics. I couldn't roll my eyes any further listening to her singing about panties dropping and cherries popping.
Artem Hooks Up With DWTS Judge Posted by Kim on 14 Oct 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank goodness Petra sent this story over to me this morning, otherwise I probably never would have seen it! Artem Chigvinsev, one of my obsessions from S1 of So You Think You Can Dance, is dating Carrie Ann Inaba, a judge from Dancing With The Stars. I guess this explains why I caught him in the audience a few seasons back! Artem is exactly what that show needs to spice things up a little bit; my fingers are crossed for next season.
Good to see him in the news again. Check out the article on People.com
SYTYCDancers on Tyra Posted by Kim on 30 Sep 2006

Last week Benji, Heidi and Donyelle were guests on Tyra Banks talk show. Where was Travis? Oh well, anyways, this segment is awesome! Check it out, and make sur to watch till the end if you wanna see Benji an Tyra break it down (and I mean REALLY break it down!).

Wow, they look FABULOUS! I caught a couple glimpses of Benji and Heidi in the audience as well. More pictures from the award coming soon.
Benji Schwimmer Speaks Posted by Kim on 19 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
His exit interview after winning So You Think You Can Dance? was nothing juicy. He didn't act like an arrogant prick or tell off his castmates, but why would he need to? He won. It's still entertaining, and the boy has got some big things ahead of him. The highlights:
So, what's up with you and Celine Dion? Are you her new backup dancer? That's still in the works. We're not sure if I'm taking that contract or not. Originally I thought, there's no way I'm going to do this. They don't do swing dancing. I wanted to give the contract to Travis, but they're not allowing me to do that. Both Mia Michaels and Brian Friedman [judge-choreographers on the show] came up to me and told me I had to take it. They said, ''You'll be able to pull it off.'' Mia said they wanted to use my styles. So there's a possibility I'll be able to do a swing-routine duet with Celine. I'm going to be driving up to Las Vegas in the next 10 days before the tour starts to see if it's a possibility or not. Mia is the choreographer for the show, and I said to her, ''I know you wanted a contemporary dancer to win.''
This is pretty much what I expected him to do, and frankly it would be best to give Travis the contract if he could. You've gotta strike the coal while it's hot. Spending a year as Celine's back up dancer will just hold him back from bigger offers.
I really wonder what Mia said back to him.
Mia mentioned last night that she thought you and Travis could go beyond dance. Any plans to go into acting?I've had offers. I'm going to be portraying Fred Astaire in an upcoming motion picture. I just got cast yesterday, but we're not sure if it's going to be a TV movie or a movie movie. I can't say any more about it yet, except that I just got cast yesterday as soon as the show ended. I've been approached by two sitcoms, a movie star wants to produce me in a show of his, and three different Broadway shows have offered me things. I guess we'll see what pulls me the most.
That's amazing. I mean, we never saw anymore of Nick after he won last year, it just goes to show how much the show has blown up this season. Fred Astaire is a good part for him, with a little work on the hair he'll be the spitting image.
I know you have to go, but any final thoughts on this experience? I'm a fan of EW's even though you guys said I have ginormous teeth. Tell whoever wrote that I say hi.
Heh.
Btw.... Check out these hot shirts, for those of you lucky enough to snag tickets to the tour:
Benji Knows He Can Dance! Posted by Kim on 17 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank the Lord, the right person, and the BEST dancer, won! Benji Schwimmer takes home the title on So You Think You Can Dance?
What a great finale that was, definitely better than last year. I was hoping they'd feature the top 20 dancers more and they did just that. Three group numbers? More than I could have hoped for. A couple extra duets? Basically a cherry on top.
Just like last year each of the top four got to choose their favorite performance of the season. Benji chose Heidi for the Black Mambo, Heidi chose Travis for the bench routine, Donyelle chose Benji for Broadway and Travis chose Heidi for the Paso Doble. Heidi had her work cut out for her! Some of the choices surprised me; I expected Benji to choose Donyelle, but thinking back, despite all their good performances there wasn't one that stood out distinctively, so his choice did make sense. I was also surprised that Donyelle chose Broadway. Meh. She should have gone with their Pop routine or even Too Much Booty. The bench routine was a given. And given that that was Travis' only good performance (heh) he had to settle for the paso doble. Of course he wasn't going to pull Martha out there.
Another funny thing, they didn't need to pull from the rest of the group for any of these numbers. That's what's great about this finale, and this top 4, no matter which way you partner them there's some sort of chemistry.
Oh, and have I mentioned how underrated Heidi is? The girl was chosen twice tonight. She had more showstoppers than anyone else on this competition. Yet she came in fourth. But I'm not going to complain! I really did not like the way they did the eliminations tonight, I mean could they have made it any more obvious? Especially by the time Donyelle came out?
How cool was that to see Dmitry and Natalie dance together? Methinks this number was in preparation for that God forsaken tour......more on that later. Anyways, I always knew these two would have chemistry together, although the performance would have been better if they swapped Natalie for Heidi (but I'm not complaining).
Poor, poor Ryan. Everyone else in the top 10 got some recognition except him (unless i'm forgetting someone). Loved seeing Allison and Ivan together again, although I would have preferred to see the Argentine Tango.
And what was up with Heidi and Benji's solo? Both looked more contemporary than ballroom. Odd.
Season Wrap Up
I promised this last week, and I'm delivering! A look back at my favorite and least favorite moments of the season.
Favorite Pairings 1. Benji & Donyelle - How can you not love these two together? They had it all, the skills and the chemistry. 2. Allison & Ivan - Individually I wasn't really a fan of either one, but together they pulled off some of the best routines of the show. 3. Travis & Heidi - Love Heidi, not so crazy about Travis, but they're an adorable couple with a great connection. 4. Dmitry & Ashlee - They were such an odd pair that they actually complimented each other well. 5. Jessica & Jaymz - I can totally understand why Cat called them Romeo + Juliet, they complimented each other so well.
Least Favorite Pairings 1. Ivan & Martha - Martha, martha, martha. Sigh, they say Dmitry sabotaged all his partners, but I have to give that title to Martha. 2. Dmitry & Joy - Anyone else remember that far back? It wasn't his fault, he might as well had been dancing with a brick 3. Travis & Martha - Even I thought they were the couple to beat at first, but that quickly fizzled out. These two had no chemistry, and it was mainly Martha's fault.
Most Memorable Moments
Benji & Heidi's Swing Dance That performance was just amazing, and even before the competition really started. It was a sign of things to come, and when I really started to become a fan of both dancers.
The Group Performances I couldn't just narrow it down to one, they were all great. Especially the Cell Block Tango and Rammalama. I wasn't absolutely crazy about the choreagraphy on Rammalama but those costumes were just amazing!
Benji & Dmitry The preperformance clip where Dmitry was "teaching" Benji to manly. So cute, so funny!
Dmitry & Artem I can't thank the show enough for bringing Artem back not one, not two, but three or four times this season. But the moment that takes the cake was seeing him interact with Dmitry on camera. I mean, what red blooded female hadn't been waiting for this moment?
Least Memorable Moments
Mia's Vendetta Yeah, you know. A few weeks ago when Mia was intent on tearing down all the other dancers just to make Travis look better, especially Heidi. I think Mia Michaels, and contemporary dancers in general need to get themselves a slice of humble pie.
Allison's Elimination I'm not going to pretend to suddenly be a big fan of hers, because I wasn't during the season and I still think she was missing something, even a small something. But she had talent, and boy was she versatile! I didn't see her elimination come at all, so yes it was a shock. Atleast she went out in style in style though, using Travis as a prop for her final solo.
Hmm....that's all I've got!
Favorite Performances of the Season
1. Allison & Ivan - Argentine Tango I 2. Heidi & Travis - Contemporary 3. Heidi & Ryan - Cha Cha 4. Benji & Donyelle - Pop Jazz 5. Benji & Heidi - WC Swing 6. Dmitry & Ashlee - Contemporary 7. Heidi & Ryan - Rumba 8. Allison & Ivan - Contemporary 9. Benji & Donyelle - Hip Hop 10. Dmitry & Donyelle - Samba
The level of choreagraphy came up a lot this seasons, the perforamances overall were just better. It's funny that the season started off so rough but ended up being the best one yet (but then again there's only two in the can). This list was tough, for the first two atleast. The Argentine Tango and the bench routine are close to being tied in my eyes, but I've gotta give Allison & Ivan just a teensy weensy bit of an edge. I mean that foot work was intricate. Everything else fell into to place, I know what I like! Those performances, and maybe one or two others, are downloaded and playing on repeat on my computer.
I cannot believe it's OVER. Now what am I going to watch on Wednesday? What reality show will I obsessive over from now until January when American Idol comes back? Actually the show isn't over for the dancers, they get to go on tour for the month of September. And yes those tickets sold out FAST. I know, becuase I tried to get seats, but no luck. If you wanted a pair of seats in LA everything was gone in 3 minutes. Boy did I underestimate the popularity of this show! I'm still hoping (read: praying) to snag a couple tix off ebay if the prices come down a bit.
SYTYCD?: The Top 4! Posted by Kim on 10 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last competition show for So You Think You Can Dance? season 2. Wow, that really came fast!
Round 1 Travis and Heidi do a disco number. I've hated every disco routine since season 1, and I can't really say this was an exception. It was better than most, I'll give them that, but still pretty boring. In their opening package they made it seem like it was a really high energy, fast paced routine, but when the dance actually started it seemed pretty slow to me. If anything, the routine highlighted Travis' faults as a ballroom dancer.
There was plenty of room to top that, but Benji and Donyelle just didn't pull it off. Their Vienesse waltz looked so amateur, I felt like I was watching the first week of the show again. The judges were right, that performance did not belong in the finale, although I don't put all the blame on them.
Round 2 Just like last year, the two guys danced together, as did the two girls. Benji and Travis did a hip hop number, unsurprisingly. I love how the contestants obviously spend a lot of time on the internet, and embrace their fanmade names (ie. Tranji). The hip hop routine was fun, and creative, but I didn't really think one stood out over the other.
Donyelle and Heidi did a broadway number to Big Spender, and the judges tore them down quite a bit. They were a little bit too harsh on the girls. Heidi had the facial features they were looking for, but Donyelle didn't. Heidi also had those really crisp, sharp moves that are needed for the particular routine, but once again Donyelle didn't. I think that pretty much clears up which of the two stood out.
Round 3
For their final partner performances, Travis and Donyelle did a contemporary number and Benji and Heidi pulled off a salsa routine. I believe hell will freeze over before Benji and Heidi perform a poor ball room routine (especially latin or swing); the routine was good, but not great. Especially in comparison to their last performance together. And It was smart of Mia Micheals (even though I still think she's a moron) to choreagraph a contemporary piece based on friendship for Donyelle and Travis, because the two really don't have the chemistry to pull off something romantic. Once again, this routine was good, but not great.
The solos were pretty much the same old thing for each of the dancers. I was really hoping they'd try something a bit more theatrical, considering it is the finale. Benji falling into the audience was a nice touch. But my favorite part of the evening was seeing the top four dance the Wade Robson routine to Justin Timberlake's SexyBack. That song is still awful, but totally worked for the performance. Have Wade's routines been coming off as very Thriller-esque to anyone else?
It's funny, because I think this season overall has been much better than last year. The choreagraphy has been better, with the exception hip hop. But this finale was just lackluster. Last year there were several memorable numbers, like Jamile and Nick's dance off, and Nick and Melody's broadway routine. This year, I won't be hitting the rewind button on any of these performances.
Ugh, I can't believe they're making us wait an entire week to find out the winner! It must be even worse for the four dancers! All I know is I want to see one fantastic show next week. I already know Benji & Donyelle will be performing Too Much Booty, and I'm guessing Travis & Heidi will do the bench routine. I really hope they involve the top 20 (or better yet the top 10) in the final show a bit more than they did last year, making it more like the American Idol finale.
SYTYCD?: Spoilers, Take 2 Posted by Kim on 08 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right after last nights taping of the So You Think You Can Dance? finale, the top four got to attend the premiere of Step Up. Sounds pretty cool! Danielle and Benji look great together in these pics. But it looks like someone else has gone Hollywood really quick! (not naming any names)
If you want to some really detailed spoilers for the show, chck out this post over at Vixen's site. Wade Robson is choreagraphed the group number to Justin Timberlake's SexyBack. I find it funny that he of all people picked that song, but that's another post entirely.

SYTYCD? Finale Spoilers, Take 1 Posted by Kim on 06 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's almost here! Part one of the So You Think You Can Dance? finale is airing on Wednesday, and a little birdie told me what the top four will be dancing! Also, in case you didn't know, the results show doesn't air until next Wednesday...meaning now show on Thursday and we have to wait an entire week for the results. What a lame schedule. Oh well, spoilers on the flip side. And make sure to check this spot tomorrow when more info comes in.
ETA: Travis & Donyelle's dance info. ETA2: Ugh. I don't even want to watch now. From the sound of the spoilers the judges are obviously pushing Travis for the win. Okay, let me make things clear here with a little analogy... Travis is to SYTYCD? as Chris Daughtry is to American Idol. That totally overhyped, overrated contestant who all the judges rally around for their own selfish reasons (mainstream rock "sells", contemporary fits he prize). If any Benji fans are reading this, get your dialing fingers ready! It's gonna be close!
SYTYCD?: Top 6 Eliminations Posted by Kim on 04 Aug 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, Cat Deely wearing pants. Totally unimportant, I know, but I was surprised. I still think they try and put her in the ugliest clothing possible.
How great was the opening number? One of my favorite group numbers so far. I loved how they were all so serious and totally into the roles they were playing. Even Benji.
Enough with the fun stuff, on to the eliminations. The first dancers safe from each group were Heidi and Travis. Did I say before that I really like these two together? Yeah, I did, just felt like reiterating it. I think Heidi actually did get the highest votes for the girls, but not Travis. I was glad they said he was safe because we all knew Benji would be. Back to Heidi, I think it's awesome how far she's come in this competition. I kind of don't like it when they call her most improved, because she was one of the best dancers to begin with.
And what the heck is Mia Micheals problem? She obviously has some personal vendetta against Heidi, basically telling her that she didn't deserve to still be in the competition. Way to go, all the other judges were being positive and she had to find some way to tear down both Heidi and Benji. It's kind of ridiculous (and biased) to tell the ballroom dancers that they have "limitations" just because they can't do contemporary, when both of them could dance circles around both her and her pet Travis in their own styles. I guess she's just too self centered and egotistical to realize contemporary isn't the end all and be all of dance.
Enough of my rant. The eliminations went as expected, with Natalie and Ivan getting the boot. Leaving Heidi, Travis, Donyelle and Benji in the final four. Could that line up be anymore perfect? But I'm really going to miss this show when it's over, I feel like I was just getting into it. All I know is they better give us two awesome shows next week. I think they should do their finale more like the American Idol finale, and include the the top 20 dancers more than they did last year. Just a thought!
