Shakira and Boyfriend Split After 11-Year Relationship

Singer Shakira has split from boyfriend Antonio de la Rua, who she had been seeing for 11 years. The couple actually broke up in August but waiting until now to share the news. They were rumored to be engaged, but it looks as though the complete opposite is true, the two released a joint statement which clarified that they have called it quits:

“During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another. They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners.”

The statement also said that both Shakira and Antonio will continue to work side-by-side on various projects, and still have a strong relationship together:

“We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible.”

Last year, Shakira said in an interview that she is looking forward to starting a family once she is ready to take a break from her busy career:

“Do I have any plans for children? Little wolves? Yeah, of course. I’d really like to have kids, but first I need to go on tour and release this new album – and then we can sit down and talk about it.”
