‘Divergent’ actress Shailene Woodley has opened up on her red carpet style. Although naturally a free spirit with a love for eco fashion, Shailene says she isn’t often allowed to express her own fashion tastes on the red carpet. The actress admits she wouldn’t be taken seriously if she was able to wear what she wanted. She says that always has to look the part and represent the film she’s promoting by dressing appropriately in the standard designer pieces for the red carpet. She commented:

“I realized this garment is going to be used over and over and over again. If I was to show up wearing my five-toe shoes, my Melodia organic leggings and some hippie top, no one is going to take me seriously, and I probably would not be doing this interview right now for The Hollywood Reporter. When I go on a red carpet, I’m Shailene, but I’m also Shailene representing a movie. I’m there for my boss, for my employer, so part of that comes with wearing the uniform.”

On refusing to wear expensive diamonds, the actress comments that she does stick to her own jewellery, specifically she usually only wears her Navajo pendant necklace because she isn’t interested in the material aspect of Hollywood and she says turning down expensive jewels helps her fight that:

“It’s my way of just recognizing spirit [her Navajo pendent] — as hippie as that may sound — in an industry where sometimes materialism is the main focus, it’s kind of my way of grounding and remembering what’s important to me.”
