Cate Blanchett surprised on the red carpet of the Oscars last night, opting for a svelte figure-hugging white gown by Givenchy haute couture. This dress, which has been taken from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection features acid-bright yellow beading near the neckline, as well as more intricate pearl-colour beading which forms the outline of a circle and runs down past her hips. The skirt half of the dress is composed of several layers of floaty sheer fabric.
Cate has finished off this statement gown with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry and has kept her hair and makeup styling simple and natural. This was definitely another one of the best dresses on the red carpet last night. I love it when someone does something unique and surprising, and this gown in particular is completely different when compared to all of the other attention-seeking meringues. It shows Givenchy’s head designer, Riccardo Tisci’s talent for putting in great attention to detail, which in return has made Cate look angelic, glamorous and elegant.
