As everyone knows, Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer were released from Iran a few days ago. Now there is news that Sean Penn have had something to do with their release.
The story is that Penn was the person who helped get his buddy Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela, the guy who constantly criticizes America and Israel, to ask his ally Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to release the two Americans.
What should we think of this? On the one hand, the relationship with Chavez and Penn makes me sick. Why is he a buddy with such a rabidly anti-American, anti-Israeli dictator? On the other hand, even megalomaniacs can try to do good. Note, I use the word “try”, because I don’t think that Chavez could make any difference with Iranian policy. So in the end I’m not impressed with Penn even if Chavez spoke to Ahmadinejad about the two Americans on his prodding. Yes, he may have had good intentions. But as we all know, the path to Hell is paved with a lot of these.
