- American Idol 8: Top 36, Group 2 | Posted by Kim on Feb 26 2009
Yup, another American Idol post. There has been a lot of speculation going around about how next weeks Wild Card show will go down. I’ve read SO many different things from sources close to the idols, as well as the judges and producers themselves. First I heard 12 contestants, then 6 contestants, and even a rumor that they had to sing the same song they originally did (that would be disaster). It seems that they’re sort of playing this by ear, but apparently they’ve finally decided on a format…sorta.
The judges will each select two contestants from the top 36, reports MTV News, bringing the grand total to eight “or possibly nine” wild cards.
From there, the wild cards will sing for their lives, where the judges will then make the final decisions, presumably sometime during the episode.
How will they pick the final three? According to an ‘Idol’ spokesperson, the episode will go down like the auditions, with three “yes”-es putting the contestants through. Once again, Simon will break any ties created, so hopefully the wild cards are still on his good side.
So, to sum it up, each judge picks two contestants, they might throw in one more contestant, all the contestants will sing and then the judges will eliminate them audition round style. With 9 performances total I’m not sure how this will all fit into an hour. That is, if they actually pretend like it’s NOT already decided by the producers and take some time for the judges to “deliberate”.
But anyways, I’m already disenchanted by the fact that the public doesn’t get a say. Why not just have the female judges pick one, the male another, and then America choose the third?
PREDICTIONS
Because the judges are usually pretty predictable.
Paula
She’ll pick someone from her favorites list who didn’t make it and whatever guy is cute and old enough for her to date.
My guesses: Ricky Braddy & Matt Giraud
Simon
A girl who looks better than she sounds and a guy who is “commercial” (read: good looking).
My guesses: Megan, maybe Jasmine, maybe even that Hicktown guy.
Randy
A bland underager and someone with soul.
My guesses: Anoop & Taylor Vafanua (if she doesn’t go through on Wednesday).
Kara
Hmm, not sure, she’s new. Probably some early favorites and maybe someone who majorly flubbed up.
My guesses: Stevie, ??? (Please not Stephen Fowler)
All I know is Anoop and Matt BETTER take two of those spots. The third will probably go to Megan.
CHECK BACK tomorrow for song suggestions!
The group song tonight was “Closer”. Erm, is it bad that I quite liked that? The guys sounded really good singing that. Matt should’ve picked this song instead of “Viva La Vida”.

This gorgeous Private Practice star shocked everyone when she announced that she and her hubby of 15 months were hitting splitsville, and it was one of those ‘rip the bandaid off’ announcements where everyone, including Kate, got very quiet about it for a little while. But now it sounds like Kate has done some healing and is ready to talk about it. She says that the divorce hasn’t put a hamper on her spirit and she is ready
to pick up and move on.
“I don’t think anyone gets married thinking that they will get divorced. We certainly did not. Alex and I still care for each other, and I wish him nothing but the best. The silver lining to this, however, is that I have a wonderful family and a great group of friends who really showed their support and encouragement, and for that I am truly grateful.”
Kate says that yes, it was hard for a while as it would be for anyone, and that’s why she wasn’t very open about it at the time. And though she is too classy to go into the nitty gritty, she says that’s she’s in a much better place now. She’s not too keen on dating though, not that she would have a problem doing so should she make the leap again, as she says that she is a little apprehensive still. She says she is still feeling pretty insecure about the divorce (suggesting that HE caused the split) and she second guesses herself all the time. Which must be what makes her such a great actress, as I can’t remember a time when I would have guessed that. She always appears so confident no?
Klaps for Kate, our kudos as she moves on with her life with a smile.

Chris Brown has certainly not won any gold stars lately, and he probably won’t be getting any any time soon. His reputation has taken quite the hit, no pun intended, since he allegedly beat up Rihanna a few weeks ago. Now that he is realizing the public, social, and probably career backlash, he is publicly announcing that he will be taking anger management classes. But he isn’t taking them to you know, actually control his problem, he’s taking them to clean up his reputation.
And if you know anything about the criminal court system, then you know that anger management classes look pretty good when it comes to a defense, so his rush to therapy isn’t actually giving me the warm and fuzzies at this point. And of course one of his friends is jumping on the Brownwagon by saying that he isn’t the only one that ‘needs it’ that Rihanna has been known to be temperamental as well. Yeah, but she didn’t beat anyone up. And that is actually the difference.

It has been no secret that since the infamous breakup with Britney Spears, that Kevin has been seen as a little bit of a money gouger. But this is what happens when you are married to someone as mega rich as Britney Spears. His reported divorce settlement would be considered obscene to some people, with hundreds of thousands being poured to him from Britney quite regularly.
But it sounds like that isn’t enough, because he is looking for a way to fill his own bank account on his own merit and a fashion line is on his wish list. He recently told Woman’s World Daily that he wanted to start a line of clothing for children that would be reasonably priced and targeted to a market with lower incomes.
He says that with this tough recession, he can’t imagine paying ‘mucho’ dollars for kids jeans anymore…and that’s me rolling my eyes on that one.
“You buy your kids a pair of True Religions then they roll around in the dirt like kids do and a $200 pair of jeans is gone.”
Is it just me or does it need to be said out loud that 2 year olds don’t need a pair of $200 jeans whether you can afford them or not? Keep an eye out for this one tho moms, K Fed was recently spotted at the Tarrant Apparel Group talking style and inspiration with the folks there. This one may actually materialize.
American Idol, semi finals, top 36, take two. Please, please, please let tonight be better than last week. They’ve got ONE hour to impress me, and if they don’t I’m turning on Lost (and I’ll finish the recap later tonight).
Jasmine
Love Song by Sarah Barielles
Considering her age, Jasmine has a pretty good voice and she’s surprisingly comfortable on stage; she didn’t seem too nervous or anything. Her downfall though was that song choice. No idea why she picked it. And like Randy said, pitch problems and she over did it and lost control of the song in some parts. It really is a shame that she tried out so early because I could see her being star in a couple of years.
Matt
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
I didn’t even like the idea of him singing this song when I heard the spoilers. It was okay. Simon had some good points about him trying to be Justin Timberlake-ish and it coming across as awkward. His dancing was a bit annoying because it didn’t completely fit the song, and putting a soul/pop vibe on “Viva La Vida” doesn’t completely work . But the judges really shouldn’t get on his case for not doing something similar to his Hollywood performances since they can’t even use instruments.
