While we’re on the subject of Project Runway, let’s take a look at what last years winner Christian Siriano did for New York Fashion Week this year. So far, it looks like he’s on track to becoming the most successful winner by far, and he’s only the second that I can remember who’s shown at NYFW (although several runner ups have shown). Check out his Spring collection below:
I like the gray mini dress, and the last gown is quite pretty.
The third ensemble needs to be in my closet, along with the two other mini dresses here.
I can’t say anything positive about anything on this row. To be honest, I’m not sure what to say about this collection at all. I like the color pallette, the mini dresses are super cute, and some of the gowns are okay. But everything else just looks like what he did for his last show in different colors and maybe sheerer fabrics. If he would only stick to more wearable cocktail dresses he might have something that would retail well. But those skinny pants aren’t going to fly off the shelves, and the puff sleeve jackets and blouses get old quick and I can’t even see those gowns doing well on the red carpet.
The latest Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, launched his line on Bluefly.com three days ago. I had no idea this was coming out so soon and it looks like Im already too late because many of the pieces are already sold out, like that plaid jacket, the cute lack dress and that gorgeous gold skirt. Those pants area awful though.
I think the line is pretty good overall and if you can sell out $480 cropped jacket in a matter of days you’re probably off to a good start. It looks like Christian is on track to becoming the most successful PR winner. I can’t wait to see what he does for fashion week this fall.

Very predictable ending to Project Runway tonight, and not just because Christian gave it away in the Regis & Kelly interview a couple of weeks ago, but because most of us had him and Rami pegged as the top two in the very first episode.
Congrats to Christian though! I always thought he’d make a good winner for the show. And the fact that he has Victoria Beckham’s approval means even more! It was also nice to see him be REAL and not just play things up for the camera so much. I never thought I’d see him crying on tv.
Out of the four designers, their collections were all pretty much polar opposites. You can see all of their looks again complete w/ my commentary right here, but just to sum it up:
Jillian: Too scatterbrained and I wasn’t surprised at all that she was the first one out.
Rami: Definitely the most marketable collection, and without sacrificing attention to detail. I’m still not over those gorgeous gowns! I would wear most of the stuff in his collection, just without the shoulder pads.
Christian: I absolutely loved the DRAMA, but it’s all too repetitive for me. But still, he’s the first high fashion designer to win the show. Good luck trying to sell this stuff, though!
I kno most people weren’t wild about this season, but it was still a heck of a lot better than most of the stuff on TV!
Not too much went down on Project Runway tonight. As usual, Tim Gunn went to visit all of the designers at home as they worked on their collections for fashion week and gave them compliments along with criticism. It seems that all of them did some editing to their collections after his visit! I mean, how ugly were those feather pants that Christian was working on? Yuck. It was like a birdman costume.
The most important part of the show was the walk off between Chris and Rami. They both showed three pieces from their collection to the judges…
Two strong looks from Rami. That black dress is just so meticulous, red carpet worthy, and absolutely STUNNING. And the short dress is unique but wearable for just about any woman. But the first piece, the coat, on the other hand, was just ridiculous. It was huge! No one would wear that. Now shrink it by about 25% and we might have something.
And then there was Chris, who had one strong piece (if I have to pick any) which would be the last one. The safety pins really did look nice and I actually like that he used human hair. What’s the big deal? We wear it on our heads anyways. But overall his collection sort of looks Morticia Adams did a higher end line for Hot Topic. It’s just way too morbid.
I know a LOT of fans are probably disappointed seeing Chris shut out of fashion week, but thank goodness the judges have better taste. I think these two collections ultimately showed why Rami is a MUCH better designer than Chris; he can take more avante garde details and make them wearable, and that’s not something Chris has learned to do yet.
To be honest, I think this walk off was done for two reasons.
1. To add another element/extra drama to the show.
2. To give Rami another shot without looking biased.
Well, that’s all pretty much a given, isn’t it?
Next week, the big finale! And be sure to check out the Sew Not Over Challenge on BravoTV.com. I’m thinking Jillian is gonna win it.
Last challenge before Bryant Park! Tonight the designers were told to choose a piece of art to inspire a garment. My initial thoughts were “what a great challenge idea!” ….eh, not so much, it would’ve been much more interesting if they had to design around an abstract piece of art; most of them just took other outfits and, well, tweaked them.
And my second thoughts…..I’ll get to that when I get to Rami’s piece.

First, the RIGHTFUL winner of this challenge; Jillian. Once again, Christian steals a win from her! This was incredibly detailed and well made yet current and wearable at the same time. I absolutely loved the details on the shoulders and the pleats on the back. The little gold dress underneath was cute as well.
I wouldn’t say that Jillian is the most versatile designer because heaven knows NONE of them deserve that title this season, but I would give her the title of most competent designer.

Honestly I throw my hands up and give up on the judges. They clearly have tunnel vision. And I’m not just talking about the fact that Christian did huge sleeves with skinny pants yet again. I’m talking about the fact that this ridiculous garment won over Jillian’s. It was well constructed and had detailed, yeah, but it’s absurdly huge! I don’t think the model could even move her neck or her arms under all of that fabric, she was basically drowning in it.

I’m so on the fence about Chris’ gown. Part of me really loves it, because that neck/shoulder piece is very pretty. But then there’s the bottom of the dress; the shape coupled with the color (mainly the color). It’s so…..so……bland. It reminds me of stucco or hospital furniture or something, I just can’t put my finger on it. I disagree with Nina saying it would be beautiful without the shoulder piece. It just sort of looks like a very elegant robe with some crinkled newspaper stuffed in the top.

Alright, you all know that I love Rami. But let’s just set that aside for a moment.
As soon as they walked into that museum, my second thought was “Rami….STEP AWAY FROM THE ROMAN & GRECIAN STATUES!! They are setting you up; they expect for you to do this!” And what does he do? Gets all giddy like a kid in a candy store and starts snapping photos of Aphrodite *forehead + palm*. And then he constantly defends his choice by saying “It’s what I do”.
Oye.
All these weeks and he still does not understand the concept of this show. And the dress itself was pretty from some angles but I didn’t really like the big hole in the back, or the way it was draped in the front when the model was walking; something was kind of wonky there.
Based on this challenge, Chris definitely deserved to make fashion week over Rami. But I think the judges made the right decision by letting them both create a collection and present their three strongest looks to the judges. Because at the end of the day Rami is the better designer hands down, BY FAR, no contest. But how many chances will the man get??
Oh and how cool was it that Roberto Cavalli was one of the guest judges?!
