SYTYCD? 4: Top 12 Spoilers
Posted by Kim on July 10th, 2008 filed in TV, So You Think You Can Dance
Woah, Cat is kinda looking like a wild woman tonight.

Mark & Chelsie - Salsa by Alex De Silva
Eh, I did not love that routine, but I never like the salsa routines on this show. Based on the spoilers, I was actually surprised at how well Mark did, especially the footwork that Nigel mentioned. I’m glad that Mia’s criticism ended up being constructive (because you really never know w/ her) and I actually think she had a valid point; loved him doing Argentine tango, but this style? Not so much. Chelsie was fab and she looked SO cute! But Nigel really needs to take a seat on the stool over there.

Thayne & Comfort - Hip Hop By Napoleon & Tabitha
Let’s just ignore Nigel’s comments here, because Mia and Mary were actually objective here and didn’t simply try and throw them under the bus. They did well with this routine, Thayne a bit Tranji but also a bit better than I would’ve thought. But the choreo reminded me of the first Nap/Tab routine we saw this season; nice, entertaining, but not really memorable. Too bad for them, but they also didn’t bring anything to the table on top of their skills.

Will & Jessica - Contemporary by Tyce
Nigel summed it up; stunning. It really was. I looove moving art performances like this, kind of like the Hummingbird routine, but this routine didn’t look any others I’ve seen on the show, and certainly not something from Tyce! I can’t say I’d rank it in my top 5 all time performances, but I see why Mary said it was one of the best ever on the show. I guess Will & Jessica are the go to couple for any half naked routines.

Courtney & Gev - Cha Cha by Anya & Pasha
That was kinda hot! I mean, the way they danced it seemed a bit watered down and labored, which bothered me a tad bit, but the entertainment value was ridiculous! And Mia is right, saying that they’re growing each week, and finally Courtney is starting to connect with the audience. Yep, they’re the underdogs.

Kherington & Twitch - Krump by Lil’ C
Oh man, Twitch KILLED that routine! I thought he was going to jump straight out the TV Samara style and strangle me or something. And Kherington was totally hitting in the beginning. But the way she just stopped half way through was totally bizarre! I thought the girl was going to pass out on the stage. Anyways, I usually can’t stand Lil C’s work but that was the best krump I can remember.

Katee & Joshua - Vienesse Waltz by Jean Marc Generoux?
Hmmm, I can’t decide if I really liked this or if it was sort of just meh. And I’ll admit that Katee has improved miles, and I don’t really feel like Josh is leading her any more (maybe the other way around), but a gift to dance?? Oh boy. I think we’ve found our TCO.

Mark & Chelsie - Broadway by Tyce
Was there a memo sent around to the judges saying “play up Chelsie and ignore/pick on Mark!” this week?? I can understand their criticism in the first routine, but Mark gave soooo much more to this routine than Chelsie did (actually Mia touched on that, which is a good thing); all she did was kick her legs up and prance around while he did most of the work. Actually I think her shoes had something to do with that, but whatev. Overall, it was a pretty hot routine! They both looked amazing. But Mark deserved at least some sort of attention for his performance.

Thayne & Comfort - Contemporary by Mandy Moore
Um….what the heck was that?? Talk about sabotage, that had to be one of the worst routines I’ve seen on this show; terrible music, ugly frumpy costumes, and the routine had no plot, no beginning/middle/end, nothing. And the judges complimented Mandy’s choreography…huh? No. No dancers could’ve done justice to that.

Will & Jessica- Quickstep by Tony Meredith
It was somewhat fun to watch, specifically the beginning and the ending was cute. But everything in the middle, like Nigel said, eh. And then there’s Mia *sigh*, she’s one bitter shrew of a woman, isn’t she? If she wants to express her opinion of a dancer, fine. But making an assumption about how another dancer feels about their partner is below the belt.

Courtney & Gev - Jazz by Mandy Moore
I agree with Nigel (yikes!!); no substance, just fun. That’s not a bad thing! It was a creative routine, and I liked the way Mandy worked in some of Gev’s bboy moves. That is all.

Twitch & Kherington - Tango by Jean Marc Generoux
Okay so the music for this routine was HUGE, but the dance just wasn’t. I didn’t get htat all. They were talking about this fight and I didn’t see that in the choreography at all. So once again, I don’t think it’s fair to just blame the dancers for this routine failing, but it was their fault to for not playing the parts. Those were some FIERCE characters, and they oucld’ve played it up, but Kherington was just running around doe eyed and who knows what Twitch was doing.

Katee & Joshua - Bollywood by Nicole & ??
Finally a new style of dance! I loved this! They may have taken a page out of SYTYCD Australia’s book but of course, we do it better. Katee really looked amazing with the make up, bindi’s, henna and all that, and Josh did great too, especially that one moment in the beginning when he was up in the front. My fingers are crossed for a Bollywood group dance sometime this season!
Rank
- Will & Jessica - Contemporary
- Katee & Joshua - Bollywood
- Courtney & Gev - Cha Cha
- Mark & Chelsie - Broadway
- Courtney & Gev - Jazz
- Mark & Chelsie - Salsa
- Katee & Joshua - Vienesse Waltz
- Kherington & Twitch - Krump
- Thayne & Comfort - Hip Hop
- Will & Jessica- Quickstep
- Twitch & Kherington - Tango
- Thayne & Comfort - Contemporary
Overall, I have to give the night to Courtney & Gev; they gave to standout, solid routines but I do think Will & Jessica’s contemp was by FAR the routine of the night. That should be enough to keep them out of the B3, but will it be? I have no idea! The second performance is what tend to stick in people’s minds.
B3: Twitchington, Thayne & Comfort, Will & Jessica
And I’m a lil bit worried about Marksie, but their fanbase should be able to pull them through. And then there’s Jessica vs. Comfort; one of them has to stay and I think the judges are leaning towards keeping Comfort.
Nap/Tabs are doing the group routine tomorrow night. I hope it’s good!

it was fun reading the spoilers and then watching the show, thanks for that!! again, Mia was mean to the guys and ridiculous in that hat! I think Bollywood was the best dance of the night. Comfort and Jessica will be in the bottom two, worried about which guy tho.
