Okay I had these written up yesterday, and yes spoilers have already come in for next weeks Final 3 song choices , but I’m not letting this post go to waste! The funny thing is, ONE of my choices is actually right but for a different contestant. See if you can guess which one it is (and if you do, you really deserve the gold star for the day) and then click the link at the bottom of the post so see the real song spoilers (three in so far).

And Tiff got one right, see if you can guess it!

Little David
Kim: He was by far the hardest one for me to pick for. He really needs to show more versatility, and I tried to pick songs that would challenge him but still fit him, so here goes! Apologize by One Republic; he has enough of an R&B vibe to pull it off and he needs to show that he can do something current. A totally unpredictable choice would be Hide & Seek by Imogen Heap, which he can make his own by adding some of his runs in there (see Ben McKenzie’s version) and maybe doing it a capella, or at least acoustic. And then closing the night with Remember When it Rained by Josh Groban, which is in his comfort zone, yes, but it’s also one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and if he can make it work with just the piano it WILL be his moment.

Tiff: “To Where You Are” - Josh Groban, “How to Save a Life” - The Fray, “Tears and Rain” - James Blunt, “The Sound of Silence” - Simon and Garfunkel

Syesha
Kim: We want to see Syesha be fun and sassy for at least one performance, and I think she could totally own Free Your Mind by En Vogue. Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton would be a good one for her too. And she also needs that one slow and poignant ballad (with dimmed lights, of course) that will seal the deal for her. I’d pick The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack.

Tiff: “Big Girls Don’t Cry” - Fergie, “Almost Lover” - A Fine Frenzy, “Samson” - Regina Spektor, “Gravity” - Vienna Teng

David C
Kim: For something fun and current, Paralyzer by Finger 11, which is a song that I absolutely hate but it’s perfect for his voice. Then I think he should do a slowed down version of Prayer ‘94 by Bon Jovi (yes Tiff, like Lukas), reminiscent of his audition. And also Behind Blue Eyes by The Who (but more along the lines of the Limp Bizkit arrangement, unfortunately), which is a really haunting song that once again, fits his voice to at tee. And I still like my choice of When Doves Cry from last week.

Tiff: “Boston” - Augustana, “Hide & Seek” - Imogen Heap, The World I Know” - Collective Soul, Falling Slowly” - The Frames/Glen Hansard

Note: If the pattern continues, whoever Simon chooses for will win and whoever gets Paula will get cut this week. Click to see spoilers.

ETA: A couple of rumors added.
ETA2: Another rumor for David A. in.

Spoiler Watch

David C
Simon’s Choice: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack
Personal Choice: The World I Know by Collective Soul
Rumored Producers Choice: American Woman by David bowie The Guess Who

Ive been wanting someone to do the Roberta Flack song on the show FOREVER. The second one could be “Innocent” redux, yikes!

Syesha
Randy’s Choice: If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys

Randy is never great at this…

David A.
Paula’s Choice:
Ruh roh!!! “So It Goes” By Billy Joel
Rumored Producers Choice: Longer by Dan Folgerberg SHOOT. ME. NOW.
Rumored Personal Choice: With You by Chris Brown

Clues: One of his songs starts with an L and is by someone who died in the last 10 years (???). The other is from the past year and is identifiable by the artist (Apologize? Hey There Delilah?), apparently it’s an odd choice, starts with a “W”, and the artist has performed on AI before (With You? Wont Go Home Without You?) .

I think it’s funny and accurate that we both chose Josh Groban for David Archuleta.

It will be interesting to see what David Cook does with the Roberta Flack song. That’s, well, an odd choice.

Wouldn’t it be *insane* if Archuleta did leave this week? Wow, I think the internet would explode. LOL.

  2. Ang Says:

Syesha could potential do really well with If I Ain’t Got You

  3. Kim Says:

^I still think he picks songs that are TOO obvious, like borderline cliche. She’ll sing it well, sure, but she needs to do more than that to beat the boys.

  4. Kim Says:

Tiff…I’m surprised the judges didnt pick Josh Groban for little David. And thankfully they didnt choose You Raise Me Up X.

Is there really such thing as an odd song choice for Cook any more?? Lol! Simon said he wanted to “take him somewhere different”, and plus he chose the song for Leona (he ALWAYS chooses the same songs for people, like Kelly and Carly, Katharine and Leona). I think it’s pretty safe to say he’s won the judges choice round already LOL.

  5. tracy Says:

Check out the Jeffrey Gaines or George Michael versions of “The First Time” and you will think David C will do it fabulously. I totally can hear David when I listen to the Gaines version.

  6. Kim Says:

^Jeffrey Gaines version is UGLY, I havent heard George Michael’s yet though. I dont like anyone covering that ‘cept Celine. We dont doubt he’ll do a good job w/ it though.

  7. Krock Says:

The only version of American Woman I know is Lenny Kravitz….. But if thats the one D.C. is doing I think its an awesome pick. Plus - its from this decade so thats a step in the right direction.

PS - I love that you guys are such Imogen Heap fans!

  8. Kim Says:

^I thought it was fairly well known that American Woman was a 70s song and Lenny’s version was a cover.

Sorry its by The Guess Who, not Bowie, lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1×6NNNfVJc

I on the fence with the choice though, because DC isnt very good at singing straight up rock songs. But its still just a rumor.

  9. Bev Says:

Somon has chosen the Roberta Flack song for a number of the competitors he has mentored on British X-Factor. The Stereophonics version is well known in Britain and I think thats the effect he’s probably after.
