AI Top 9 Attempted Song Suggestions
Posted by Kim on March 30th, 2008 filed in American Idol
Alright. I’m sure none of you will be surprised to learn that I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Dolly Parton’s music. Hence the “attempted”. Keep in mind that I’m basing all of this off of the 30 second clips on itunes.
David A. - I Will Always Love You
So heeeere we go. After S1 this song has pretty much been banned from the show (thankfully), and I’m wondering if they’ll finally allow someone to take a stab at it again. If so, Syesha MUST stay away from it! Same goes for the other girls. But I would really love to hear little David go for it, and maybe even do it a capella (or at least semi a capella). I’ve heard him singing it when he was younger and he nailed it, but his voice isn’t quite the same now. But this could get him “back in the game” (cause you know, some people actually think he’s not the front runner anymore *snickers*)
Also… 9 to 5, to hear him do something different.
David C. - Prediction: Jolene by The White Stripes [listen]
Maybe he’ll sing it note for note, drag the mic stand around and add a shouty glory note 3/4 of the way through! Lather, rinse, repeat. Keep reading.
Brooke - Jolene
I’m sure Crook already has his grubby little fingers all over this, but I think Brooke could do the song the most justice and add emotion to it. I also hope whoever sings it strips it down and takes out some of the twang. Actually, I quite like this song and I can imagine several of them fighting over it.
Also…. Blowin’ In The Wind
Jason C. - Islands In The Stream
I think he could potentially do well in this theme; some people are doubting him, but I’m not sure why, country isn’t that far off from his vibe. This song is nice, sweet and mellow just like him. And I just might throw him a vote if he throws some “Ghetto Superstar” in the mix.
Also…. Coat of Many Colors
Ramiele - Here You Come Again
Clay Aiken did a cover of this song on his last album, and I can hear her doing an arrangement similar to that. It would be playing it safe once again for her, but I think out of all the contestants she’ll have the hardest time with this theme.
Also… Heartbreaker, could make a pretty pop song.
Carly - Save The Last Dance For Me
I’m not sure why, but this kind of sounds like an 80s dance song with a country feel to me. So she could probably change the arrangement slightly and add in some glory notes and make it work.
Michael - Me & Bobby McGhee
I had NO IDEA what to pick for him, but I went with this because it has a bit of a soulful/bluesy vibe to it. I’m not too worried about what he’ll choose though; I read that his first concert was actually the Islands In the Stream tour!
Kristy - Why’d You Come In here Lookin’ Like That
She should be fine (unfortunately) on any of the songs since she’s like, really country.
I know, I left out Syesha. I can’t hear her singing any of the songs I listened to, but I hope she does well!
A couple other updates:
Jordin will be making her first appearance back on the show. She and Chris Brown will sing “No Air” on the Top 8 results show (that’s the day after Idol Gives Back).
Mariah Carey will be the mentor for the Top 7 show, and rumor has it the theme will be Billboard #1’s, which makes sense (she’s had a TON of them, and its a theme they’ve done at least twice before).
The Clarks Brothers are set to make an appearance on next weeks show.
And if the theme for IGB is inspirational songs again, that would make Andrew Lloyd Webber the mentor for the top 6. The theme will be his songs.
