American Idol 7: The One Who Won’t Tour
Posted by Tiff on March 20th, 2008 filed in American Idol, TVThe Beatles’ two week themed run on ‘American Idol’ season 7 will soon be a thing of the past. Tonight, the remaining eleven contestants were narrowed to ten, which will embark on the summer tour. Future mentors were revealed to be Mariah Carey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. And then we were subjected to another Beatles’ medley top eleven style.
Kim: Yeah well, we already knew 3/4 of those mentors. But once again, you don’t even KNOW how excited I am for ALW week! Even though this group is completely wrong for that theme!
Tiff: Season five alumna Kellie Pickler returned to sing “Red High Heels.”
Kim: Oh, Ryan. “who’s *pause* grown in so many ways” Nice one.
The Bottom Three
Tiff: First in the bottom three tonight was Carly Smithson, which was actually surprising. She sat, crying on her stool waiting to hear her fate. Kristy Lee Cook was told she was to join Carly in the bottom three. And, the last person in the bottom three tonight was Amanda Overmyer. Carly was the first allowed back to safety.
Kim: Nope. Sorry AI, not buying it. She had the BEST performance last night, and her single is ranked 4th out of all 11 on itunes as we speak….but they expect us to believe she was in the B3? I remember them doing this to Chris Richardson this same week last year.
Kim: And my bb is safe!! How did that happen? Eh, don’t question it, just be thankful
The Person Going Home Is….
Tiff: Amanda Overmyer. Dang it, Kristy escapes elimination again. I should have figured the token country girl wouldn’t miss out on the tour.
Kim: Yeah, I’m not really surprised. It’s kind of a shame though because there were a handful of people worse than Amanda last night. To be honest, I kind of feel sorry for Kristy now; she looked pretty torn up at the end, like she knows what kind of backlash is coming her way.
Next Week’s Theme: Birth Year (now confirmed)
. Check back for our song suggestions this weekend!
Tiff: Click the cut to see who I think will go home, and when. Read Kim’s boot order predictions here.
Tiff: Kim’s shared her thoughts on how she thinks things will go down in terms of eliminations…Here’s what I think.
10 - 8
10. Kristy Lee Cook
09. Chikeze
08. Syesha Mercado
7-6
07. Ramiele Malubay
06. Michael Johns
5-3
05. Jason Castro
04. Brooke White
03. David Cook/Carly Smithson
2-1
02. David Cook/Carly Smithson
01. David Archuleta
Tiff: Frankly, I’d be surprised if anyone other than David Archuleta doesn’t win. I’m not saying there aren’t other talented people on the show, I’m just saying it looks like his path is pretty clear. And, you might wonder why I have Carly and David C. in the third and second slots? It’s simple, Carly leaving third and David second would be a “shocker” elimination, and it’ll be about time for one of those, I would think. And David Cook has been stirring a lot of attention as of late in the media, positive attention, perhaps more so than the others. If he keeps up his performances ala “Hello” and “Eleanor Rigby,” he just might have a chance of doing pretty well. Granted, I’d like him to win, but I won’t put all my eggs in that basket, because I like David Archuleta too.
Kim: Get it, Tiff!! We’re on the same page.

I know it’s partly because he’s so wee, but damn if Archuleta isn’t in the front or the center of like every group photo.
And I’m so sad that I won’t get to see Amanda be forced into singing a Mariah Carey song. Or a Broadway song, for that matter. That would have been classic.

^Im pretty sure Chikezie is the chosen one now. Just look, he’s front and center of the second photo. They’re telling us something.

I thought that Amanda would have been nice to have on the tour. While she’s not my cup of tea - she could at least perform better than say KLC or even little Ramiele.
I would love to meet just 1 person that is voting for her. I don’t understand. She’s not that cute and she picks the absolute worst songs. What gives?

I wasn’t surprised that Carly was in the bottom 3. She oversang a beautiful, subtle song and then copped a ‘tude with Simon after her performance. I think she’s totally overrated, personally.
I am surprised that Amanda went before Kristy, however. Amanda was fun to watch and would have been a good addition to the tour. I personally don’t think Kristy’s much of a country singer. Chikezie’s has a better country aesthetic than she has. *sulk*
Eh.
