American Idol: Top 12 Elimination

Show starts off with a bunch of product placement, blah blah blah, and a really lol worthy group number. I enjoyed that, but for all the wrong reasons. That choreagraphy really was something, wasn’t it?

Right off the top of the show, Ryan says that they changed the theme to yet another Beatles night next week because they go OH SO MANY calls about it. Ummm, did they see the show last night? Making us sit through that once was bad enough! And we know they didn’t change the theme, considering all the contestants choose their songs weeks in advance. BLECH. How monotonous and boring!

And Katharine McPhee is finally invited back to the show, with her lap dog producer David Foster in tow. She sang “Something” wearing an ugly and over the top sparkly mini dress, and it was full of melisma. No surprise there. Taylors’ version >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> her version.

The Bottom 3

Ryan asks Simon if Syesha deserved to be in the bottom 3, replies bluntly “yes”. Well, no there were worse people *coughDavidJasoncough* but we all saw this coming.

Kristy warbled her way through “8 Days A Week” again. Anyone else notice Michael and Jason just off in their own little world, doing those hoe down moves? Yeeaahh, I would’ve tried my hardest to tune her out too.

And David H. rounded out the bottom 3, and did a toned down version of “I Saw Her Standing There” , which I preferred to the over the top arrangment he did the night before.

Dang, I lost a lot of points in a prediction pool when Syesha was sent to safety. But I just knew Kristy would be safe; that didn’t surprise me at all. I am majorly bummed about David H. going home, he was one of my faves and I was so happy last week when he made the top 12! Can’t we cut a guy some slack and give him a second chance? Guess not. This guy could’ve done some good stuff. He’s probably the BEST top 12 finisher, and that shows how much talent there is in this season.

Boot Order Predictions

This is something I mean to do last week but kind of forgot; my thoughts on who will go when and why. Keep reading, see if you agree, and if you don’t let me know why!

I’m not even going to try and predict EXACTLY when each contestant is going to get the boot, that would just be way too hard to call (as we saw tonight).

Early Outs

11-8. Syesha,  Chikezie, Kristy, Amanda
Any of these four would have to be truly amazing to stay in the competition longer than this. Syesha hasn’t done anything since week 1 of the semi’s, although I think she would’ve done so much better in a previous season, where vocal abilities were favored over performance/creativity. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Chikezie and Kristy on tour.

Middle of the Road

7-6. Michael & Ramiele
They’re both in the same (sinking?) boat; they were impressive that first week of the semi’s but since then, they’ve both lacked that extra “wow” factor and they aren’t standing out compared to the new front runners. Ramiele’s fanbase might keep her in longer.  Maybe they should both pick up an instrument, the judges might be a little bit kinder to them. (yes I’m being slightly sarcastic)

The Dark Horses

5-3. Jason, Brooke, David C.
To be completely honest, I don’t think Jason deserves to make it this far and I’m hoping the novelty of him wears off eventually. But he has a big enough fan base that will probably vote for him no matter how repetitive and boring his performances may be. I could possibly see David C. slipping in to the top 2 (but I wouldn’t put money on it). And Brooke will make an excellent 3rd placer. No matter how consistently good she is, she just doesn’t have a broad enough appeal to make the finals yet alone win it.

Top 2

2-1. Carly & David A.
A lot of people think he’ll get DAUGHTRY’ed, but during S5 I always had a feeling Chris would go home early, and I’m sticking with my gut and saying that will not happen to David A. I think he’ll be like Kelly/Taylor/Carrie and avoid the bottom 3 all season long. Carly has a good enough voice to make the top 2, but if she slips performance wise I don’t think she’ll have enough of a fanbase to back her up.

But really, once we get to the top 8 or so, I don’t think ANYONE will be completely safe. You mess up once, you’re gone! Unless you’re David A., of course. That’s how competitive this year is.

Did you read this story about little David A? http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/03/59501/index.html

I feel so bad for the little guy.

Anyway, I disagree with David H. While his performance was not up to par - KLC has not had ONE decent performance.

^Yeah I read all that stuff about David A, poor thing! Theres more info here too http://laragmag.com/2008/03/11/la-rag-magcom-exclusive-david-archuletas-overbeaing-stage-dad-revealed/ it says his dad threatened another contestant on Star Search and was banned from the set. Yikes….

Yep I bet most of us agree w/you about Kristy. Not surprising though.

  3. hicksfan7 Says:

I might have a little disagreement with your Chikezie prediction - just because he seems to improve each week - not saying he could win it all, but he might end up closer to the top if he keeps pulling out something new and good each week!

Katharine was the best part of this tired show. She sang great and looked fabulous! There’s my comment..now a question: taylor WHO????!!! Surely not the joke of season 5 who can’t sing. Maybe you should talk less smack and get a hearing test STAT!

  5. TypoPolice Says:

Much agreed about Taylor’s Something being way better than Katherine’s Something. And I agree also about Jason, I just don’t see star quality looking at him, he grates on my nerves.

TypoPolice - I totally agree that Taylor’s SOMETHNG was really “something” and Kat’s was…….not.

I actually think (IF)Chikeze stays on his path he might crack that Top 5. He is truly the most diverse and versatile of the remaining 10. He can do R&B, Pop, Soul, Rock and i can see him doing some Country too. He becoming a lot more likeable than in the beginning
