American Idol 7 Miami

Tonight, American Idol took on Miami. Was muy caliente? Eh, more like lukewarm.

Shannon McCough who works at a meat market and belches really loud. I’m not so sure that’s a good combination. She sang “Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin and it was even louder and more abrasive than her burping. Apparently she won a bunch of singing competitions and was pretty surprised at the judges being offended by her voice. If her voice wasn’t so affected she probably would’ve sounded good.

Next up is the much talked about Robbie Carrico, the ex boybander who had a short fling with Britney. It doesn’t surprise me that this guy went from pop to rock because to me he seemed a lot less authentic than the other two rockers we’ve seen. I don’t like this guys voice. He’s annoying. And I didn’t even recognize the song.

Then some gypsy guy came in and sang a wobbly version of a Marc Anthony song. I thought it was kinda ridiculous but he got through to Hollywood.

Corliss & Brittany are best friends who auditioned together. The first girl sang “Take 5″, which isnt easy to sing, and the second sang “My Guy” or whatever it’s called, which is just kinda boring. They were both only alright but still got through.

Then we get another one of these teenage mothers who use their “struggle” as their sob story. This time it’s Suzanne Toon who tries way too hard to emote while singing “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Oye, I’m SO sick of hearing that song. The judges seemed to quite like her and I’m not sure why.

And then we met little 19 year old Ramielle Mulabay who’s filipino like Jasmine Trias and is only about 4′11″. She pushed way too hard on “Natural Woman”, really overdid it but she could be a real powerhouse if she just got a few things together. Pretty girl too. Simon said no but the other two put her through.

Finally a girl with a big voice! Syesha Mercado, who you probably don’t remember from the short lived ABC show The One, belted out “Freedom” by Aretha Franklin at the top of her lungs; literally. That was probably LOUDEST audition I’ve ever heard and it almost gave me a headache, but she can obviously sing. She’s cute and has a cute personality, but someone needs to teach her about dynamics.

They quickly showed Lorena Pinot who sang Unfaithful by Rihanna. She’s had a good career with the Miami Sound Machine, but her voice seemed limited to me.

Julie Dubela made the top 20 on American Juniors and she’s all grown up and a thorough bimbo! She sang some Janis Joplin song full of overconfidence and her voice wasn’t terrible but I didn’t hear any melody. The judges said her performance seemed over rehearsed. They all said no to her but she wouldn’t take that for an answer. Spoiled. annoying. brat.

Yikes. Rounding out the show was Brandon who’s slightly out of his mind and his audition was one for the record books. He seemed to confuse “audition” with “variety show”. The judges, and America, were treated to a “comedic” monologue, two songs including an original about how he was going to be the next AI, and really awkward dance moves. The judges walked out on him. That was a no.

Next week is the last week of auditions, WOOOHOOO!

You didn’t recognize the song Robbie sang?? It was Simple Man by the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd. Do yourself a favor and buy an album. It’s some of the best music ever made.
