Project Runway 4 Kicks Off!

So glad this show is back! There’s not much to say about the contestants right off the back, personality wise at least. Christian seems like he’s trying to take on the role that Jeffrey played last year as the cocky one in the house. ….and it comes across as really fake.  The only other thing I really noted about the contestants was Carmen saying “if you don’t model you don’t know the first thing” about design. Yeah honey, I don’t think so.

Let’s take a look at what the designers came up with, shall we? The task was to create a look that represented who they were as a designer. I’ll admit I missed the wacky first challenge but this actually made sense. The top looks were…

I liked what Victorya did, save the part around the shoulders. But other than that the silhoutte is very current and the flower is cute. A girl always needs an LBD!

Christian came so close to winning the challenge. I wasn’t sure which way the judges were going to go and I wouldn’t have argued with them if they had picked him! The great thing about his creation is that he managed to think out of the box but still make it wearable. Really unexpected details, nice choice of fabrics and great construction overall.

Methinks he might be a Jeffery or a Santino but with a bit more…self control?

I absolutely love that Rami won the first challenge! Great design here; I loved the draping, and the dress is gorgeous overall, I could see Jennifer Lopez wearing this on the red carpet right now. And based on what I’ve seen from him, it totally looks like something that would fit in with his current collections.

Okay, we’ve seen the good, now it’s time for the UGLY….

I can’t find a picture but lingerie designer Ricky made a basic baby doll dress.  Ya, seriously.  He used this black and silver fabric though, and it was really adorable but honestly I could go buy that right now off of Macys.com if I wanted to.   Did someone forget to tell him that this show is about DESIGN?  Cause that’s not what he did.  But I’m glad they gave him another chance.

It looks like Elisa is our resident trainwreck.  You know, that designer who thinks more than they can actually execute.   Her attempt at avant garde failed miserably.    Even without that ridiculous tail on the end, her dress looked cheesy and the construction (from the front) looked cheap.  But it wasn’t enough to give her the boot!

pr41_simone.jpg

Our first casualty of the season is Simone, and I agree with the judges 101% on this; yes, even over Elisa.  Once again, there wasn’t really any design here, no vision at all, and putting that jacket over top just didn’t make any sense.  On top of all that the construction was disgusting if you saw it up close.  Girl can’t sew for crap.  How did she even make the show to begin with?

Oh, and I think we should also check in on what model girl Carmen did this week…

Yeah, there goes that theory!  Did she think they were doing the wardrobe for Arabian Nights??
