So You Think You Can Dance? 4 Tour Review

Last night I headed down to Fresno for the So You Think You Can Dance? 4.  Usually, every year I check out the American Idol tour but decided to go to this one instead for the first time since AI7 was the pits.  Let me just say, this group is better than the credit people give them!  They were super entertaining with all their skits in between the dances, especially Gev.

The show opened with that hot Shane Sparks hip hop routine to “Elevator”, and followed by Katee & Joshua’s Samba.  I think they changed this up a bit (I noticed a few changes in a few of the dances) and it was so much more entertaining live!  But the next two dances weren’t; sorry, but I still see  Twitch & Kherington’s Hip Hop and Will & Courtney’s Lyrical Hip Hop as throw away routines.  The fake Chelsea/Will wedding pictures were pretty cute though.

Gev & Chelsie’s Jive was SO energetic and sooooo fast.  My gosh, her legs move like crazy. Chelsea & Thayne were the tour alternates and did their Cha Cha.  I’m glad Chelsae T. got to be on tour cause she was totally robbed; she was killin’ it in some of the group dances too.  I’ll always love  Katee & Joshua’s Mia Contemp, but oddly enough I though Joshua was hitting it a bit more than she was.  And Will is always, always, ALWAYS a great soloist. I loved the choregraphy he did.  His contemporary routine with Jessica was oh SO powerful on stage and just beautiful to watch. I really wish the two of them could’ve done “Alone”, but I’m guessing Jess still hasn’t fully recovered.
Twitch & Joshua’s Russian Trepak  was another highlight of the first half.  To me, that routine will always be just a bunch of stunts but the crowd loved it.  Twitch is WILDLY popular; he got even more love than Joshua did. I mean people were seriously going crazy for him and he totally hammed it up.  HE was on stage so much if I didn’t know better I would mistake him for the winner.  The first half closed with Joshua & Katee’s Bollywood routine, followed by the group Bollywood.  This was one of my favorite parts of the show.

Second Half

The second half opened with “The Dance”, you know, that weird Cirque Du Soliel like Mia group routine.   Loved it.   Katee & Twitch did the door routine, which was great live, and  Chelsie & Joshua and did their Aregentine Tango.  Another routine that didn’t really need to be there, but whatever.  I did love seeing Comfort and Twitch dance to “Forever” again.  This routine was just FRESH.  They added a lot in and played to the crowd as well.

Then we finally got to see Gev and Courtney do their ONE dance together.  I still can’t believe they only had ONE routine.  That’s just absurd.  There was yet another group dance thrown in; the “Money” broadway routine, which was surprisingly fun to watch.   Joshua and Katee also did a Contemporary routine that I couldn’t remember for the life of me!  It was the one to “All By Myself”.  And one of the last routines of the night was Mark & Chelsie’s “Bleeding Love”.  I had no idea just how wildly popular this routine was.  Even when they would show glimpses of it up on the teleprompter, people went crazy!  The two of them did great, as usual, but just like with Gevney, they should’ve had more routines.

Twitch & Kherington’s Waltz, Katee & Joshua’s “No Air” and the “You Can’t Stop The Beat” group routine finished out the night.  Oh, and I almost forgot about the solos!  Gev’s solo pretty much owned them all.  Seriously, the lighting and everything he used was pretty amazing.  Mark’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” solo was up there too; the crowd REALLY responded to all his quirky movements.

So if you have the chance to go to this show…..GO.  Get your tickets NOW.  You won’t regret it! I enjoyed this more than most of the AI concerts I’ve been to.

It was kind of weird that the dancers were required to stand on stage after their performances for a very loooong amount of time, but it made it much easier to get good pics.  I wasn’t focused on taking photos as much as I usually am at this show, yet these are probably the best ones I’ve gotten from any show.  Enjoy!

Mark & Courtney’s Jazz routine and Marksie’s contemporary routine (the wedding) and Chelsie & Twitch’s Mambo should have been in the show.

Courtney and Will should have done the Samba instead of the Hip Hop routine.

It’s great that you had a good time. I feel for the Gevney and Marksie fans just like I felt for the Kamcey and Lauriel fans last year. But, I don’t think they should’ve upped the number of partner dances. It seems like the only reason they did was to get more Katua dances.
