Our Gossip Girl recap is a bit late because this recapper, who hails from Massachusetts was doing her civic duty and voting for the new Senator, though for some reason, not one of them seemed as handsome, young or crazy as Rep. Van Der Bilt. And for that I should be thanking my lucky stars, because he went all sorts of crazy. Let’s just hope the good voters vote him the hell out of dodge the next time around. But! Back to the recap:

With winter is on its way, the wealthy of the Upper East Side are covering things up—and not just their heads (Slouchy hat city!) Dan is trying to mask his growing love for Vanessa, Nate’s pretending he doesn’t want to kick the crap out of Trip, Lily wants to keep Mr. Van Der Woodson’s condemning letter far from Rufus’ gaze, Maureen wants to cover up Trip and Serena’s affair, and Chuck is burying his mounting despair that he’s not living up to his deceased father’s expectations… to name a few. Oh and Jenny’s a drug dealer, which she doesn’t seem to need to hide since both her parents and Lily seem to have completely given up on her. If this is all sounding a bit heavy for Gossip Girl, that’s because heavy it was. After the jump find out how wolves landed Serena in the sick bed: sadly, no Jacob involved..

It was the anniversary of Bart Bass’ death and even though we’ve all stopped caring about bad old Barty, his memory is alive and pushy as ever. Somehow even Bart Bass can be disappointed in his son from beyond the grave. Chuck considers a business opportunity his dad would have killed his grandmother for: transforming a homeless shelter into luxury lofts. Even though Blair tries to convince him to reconsider, to quote Blair “A. Gross and B. Really?” which she followed up with some compelling points: “I’m not a huge advocate of the downtrodden but I am a fan of not stepping on them when I’m at John Derian. If you turn these into lofts then where are they going to live? But in something out of Grey’s Anatomy, Chuck’s father appears to him and convinces him to drink during the day, turn out the homeless and Blair as well. Which he proceeds to do, in a very touching moment where the heartbroken Blair still manages not to give up on him.

Meanwhile, Serena and Trip have escaped to the Hamptons to be together, because as we all know, indulging yourself in torrid affairs always works out for you in the end. Actually, Trip leaves Serena at the maison d’amour while he meets up with his wife who is prepared to blackmail Serena into staying hidden, because she has a letter that indicates Mrs. Van Der Woodson spent some illicit time with her ex whilst married to Rufus. Instead of agreeing to the demands, Serena gets upset and runs away. When Trip picks her up in his car the two start to bicker and a pack of wolves causes Trip to veer off the road and crashing. When Trip sees Serena, bloody and unconscious in the car, he moves her to the driver’s seat and scarpers like the coward he is. Luckily, a worried Nate who had been in contact with Serena, arrives at the scene to get really REALLY angry. He runs into Trip at the hospital and after some telling off he gives him what he all have been dying to see for a very long time: one hell of a punch to the face. It was so beautiful, like a breath of fresh air to the eyes. Plus Nate called someone “a douche” in the episode in a brilliant way and it made me not really care how erratic and boring his character is because OH those EYES!

So Serena is all right and even better to be rid of Trip. Chuck shows up at the hospital and faces his fears with his father’s apparition, embracing Blair into his life once more. As for Jenny, she and Eric miraculously made up after acknowledging that they were in a fight, which I don’t think ever quite works, and if anybody really cares she is still a painted jezebel, trading high priced drugs with a foreign Z-Efron wannabe. So Lily’s secret stay with Mr. Van Der Woodson is sure to come out sometime… but I’m afraid to see Rufus sad, my heart might just break. At least that’s one consolation for the fact that GG is going on a holiday hiatus. I know I’ll miss you GG, xoxo,
