Emma Stone on Red vs. Blonde Hair & Having “Pale Genes”

Emma Stone likes a change: not only when it comes to her film roles but there is one other thing she’s always altering: her hair! The actress has gone from red to blonde and back again several times, plus she’s worn it curly, straight, shorter and long. She’s clearly a girl who loves to have fun experimenting with her hairdo. The actress says that one of the main reasons she’s always changing it is because she can’t quite make up her mind:

“When it’s blonde, I wish it was red. And when it’s red, I wish it was blonde. I would probably keep it blonde in real life just because blonde grows out better so it’s cheaper. But the studios pay for my hair changes, so that’s cool.”

Emma also says that she has “pale genes” which explains her always ghostly pale complexion. She says that she would try to get a tan all of the time when she was younger to rid herself of her snowy skin but she would never brown and always ended up burning in the sun instead:

“I can’t help it. When I was younger, I’d try really hard to tan (I’m from Arizona, which is really sunny and everyone there is really tanned) so that I wasn’t the weirdo pale kid. I wanted to be part of the cool group, but I learned pretty early on that all I do is burn. So then I did spray tans, which unfortunately made me look like I had leprosy or I had just dug through mud.”

Emma says that in the future, she’s thinking of doing some dramatic with her locks:

I’ve never cut my hair short as an adult. Only when I was 12 years old – and it looked terrible. And I’ve never dyed it any unnatural colour, so that would be fun.”
