Debate of the Day: Does Amber Portwood Deserve 5 Years in Jail?

Teen Mom Amber Portwood is facing a 5 year jail sentence, basically because she’s an idiot. So, does she deserve to be behind bars for such a lengthy time? Let’s take a look at her history so far. Portwood is a mother to three-year-old daughter Leah, who she welcomed through the miracle of child birth after having sex with whatever that blob in the pictured above is called (for the record, it’s Gary Shirley).

In 2010, she has her first but not last brush with the law – domestic violence charges which came as a result of the reality show in which she was regularly seen violently lashing out as Shirley.

When she was rearrested in December of that year, “a fairly sufficient amount of several different prescription pills” were found during a probation search. She was arrested in May of this year for violating her drug court probation requirements – she failed a urine test and lied about it. After dropping out of a rehab program, she has now been sentenced to serve two years or more in an Indiana jail. After multiple screwed-up chances, she’s now headed to the slammer, where she is expected to stay for two-and-a-half years before she could potentially be released on parole for the remainder of the five years.

That’s a lot of stuff. Does Amber deserve yet another chance? Or is this the only way she’ll possibly learn? Will jail even straighten her out? Does Amber have any redeeming qualities whatsoever? Three cheers for awful, awful parenting, as highlighted by the wonderful Teen Mom show which didn’t even have to employ the Lost writers to be utterly baffling.
