6 Celebrities Who Were Molested

To speak out after being molested takes guts, and some of these stars are clearly still battling with their demons. All of these stars have been molested as a child or young adult, but many of them have only been able to speak about their horrifying experiences only recently. Some of these famous stars, such as Teri Hatcher, were even forced into incestuous relationships by close members of their family. Below are their shocking real stories.

Gabriel Byrne 

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne recently opened up about his molestation. When Gabriel was 11, and training to become a priest in Dublin at a seminary school, he was molested by priests. He commented: “I didn’t feel I suffered at the time. I just felt it was the way of the world, it took many years to come to terms with it and to forgive those incidents that I felt had deeply hurt me.”

Mo’Nique 

Mo’Nique has said that she was molested by her brother when she was aged just 7-years-old. She claims he molested her 4 times in 4 years. Mo’Nique explained that she tried to talk about it with her parents who didn’t believe her: ”Even when I confronted him and told my parents, he said I was lying, and nothing was really done,” she said. “My father was very upset, but it never got mentioned again. I’ll never forget my mother saying, ‘If it’s true, it will surface again,’ and I remember thinking, ‘Why would I lie? Why is there even an “if” in this?’ I was angry with them for so long because I felt as if they should have seen what was happening.”

Teri Hatcher  

Teri Hatcher was molested between the ages of 5 and 7 by her 35-year-old uncle. She only recently felt comfortable enough to talk about it, stating:  “I feel such shame, because it felt like I was special. I was being paid special attention to, told how fabulous I was. This was someone who was supposed to love me, but at the same time you know it’s wrong, these are haunting things I’ve remembered all my life. The most horrible thing that has stuck with me all my life is that he was touching me and doing things to me and he said, ‘Doesn’t that feel good?’ I said, ‘No, it doesn’t.’ He said, ‘Well, someday you’ll know what I’m talking about.’”

MacKenzie Phillips 

Actress and singer MacKenzie Phillips claims she was molested by her father, John Phillips, singer of The Mamas & the Papas.  MacKenzie appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show where she spoke about her relationship with her father, and also wrote a tell-all book about her experience. She claims that her father injected her with drugs and that she “woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father.” She claims the relationship continued until she got pregnant and she didn’t know who the father was – according to her, her father paid for the abortion and then their relationship ended. Some of MacKenzie’s family don’t believe her story, while others do – no one knows for sure if she’s telling the truth.

Mary J. Blige 

Mary J. Blige was just 5-years-old when she was molested by a family friend. The singer recently spoke on the experience: “When I was five years old I was molested and just, you know. I remember feeling, literally right before it happened, I just could not believe that this person was going to do this to me, that thing followed me all my life, the shame of thinking my molestation was my fault – it led me to believe I wasn’t worth anything.”

Tyler Perry

 Filmmaker Tyler Perry has spoken on his childhood molestation which left him feeling like he died as a child.  Tyler was abused by his violent father and also suffered from sexual abuse at the hands of four different adults. Tyler describes a male neighbor who touched him when he was 5 or 6 years old: “I’m thinking, ‘What is this? and I felt my body betraying me, because I felt an erection at that age.”

Tyler also says he was molested by a man who he knew from church: “[The man from church] used God and the Bible against me to justify a lot of the things that were going on. It was so horrible, and that was my first sexual experience, with this man performing oral sex on me as a boy.”
