Maggie Gyllenhaal is currently tackling the new role of Nessa Stein in political TV miniseries ‘An Honourable Woman’, and she has spoken on how her character’s clothing helped her get in to character for the show. Maggie says her character power dresses in this instance, and she has noticed that many of her roles include fashion in some regard because in most of the parts she plays, her character cares about her appearance. She explained that they created Nessa’s luxurious high fashion wardrobe with the help of some designer friends who wanted to contribute because they couldn’t afford the type of clothing she would wear on their budget. Maggie commented:

“The clothing is always the way in [to the character], I never played a character that didn’t care about what they were wearing. Nessa should have been dressed head to toe in Céline, but we couldn’t afford it. So we started calling in favours from people like Stella McCartney, who wanted to help, I thought sex had to be a part of it. That’s important to me, too, in the way I dress.”

Maggie reveals that during filming of period film ‘Hysteria’, she ordered some historical themed clothing for her 7-year-old daughter Ramona and offered her a chance to even appear in the film. Maggie says that while Ramona loved the clothing, she decided she didn’t want to make an appearance on camera:

“Oh no, I don’t want to do it, but I like the clothes!’ That was really smart!”
