What’s going on in the world of relationships?  First, it was the rumor that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were splitting up.  Now it’s the news that Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly are calling it quits.

If the Smiths were in an “open” marriage, then I’m not too surprised if the rumors are true.  But they did seem like they were in love at one time.  I guess they are good actors.  Does Jada even act?

 I don’t know much about the Jeter/Kelly relationship, except that it was in the media for three years.  I guess 3 years for a celebrity relationship is like 20 years for a non-celebrity relationship.  So perhaps the end of their relationship is not such a big deal.

Of course, the big question is how will this all play out with the Yankees.   I suppose that most Yankee fans are so happy about the three grand slam home runs, that they don’t really care about whether their once great superstar shortstop is continuing to shtup (read: bang) an ok actress who starred in an ok television series, Friday Night Lights.  Minka is cute, but Derek could get tons of cute, even if his career is in its twilight.

Just days after Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced their divorce, rumors are swirling about what caused the split and how they’re both dealing with it.

One source close to the couple insists they split because they couldn’t stop fighting. They chose to end their marriage “after months of nonstop arguing” for the sake of their two children. One source also attributed the divorce to Jennifer’s involvement with William Levy, the man who starred in her “I’m Into You” music video. However, Levy has adamantly denied this rumor and insists he and Jennifer’s relationship was purely professional.

So how are Lopez and Anthony dealing with the split? Marc seems to be fine, and was even making jokes about the split at a recent concert. He was in Colombia to perform Saturday night when he said to fans, “They’re saying I’m single.” The crowd sang along and cheered as he blew kisses at girls in the crowd.  As for Jennifer, she might not be handling the situation as well. Several of her close pals say,

“She is devastated. Absolutely beside herself. This is someone she dedicated a long time to, and that she truly loved. “

She’s working now on rebuilding her life as a single mom, which will take some getting used to. Still, she’s jumping right into to it and looking toward the future. She’s also focusing on her busy work schedule, which will help keep her mind off things.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have called it quits after 7 years of marriage. They made the announcement Friday.

“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

Sources are now reporting that there have been signs of trouble for the couple for a while now. Jennifer and Marc haven’t been seen together since early June, which was originally attributed to each working on separate projects. Lopez traveled to France and Spain with her mother and the kids to participate in a French reality show while Anthony filmed the TNT medical drama HawthoRNe, in which he plays a police detective.

But soon after, Lopez was also spotted at Disneyland spending quality time with her kids but without Anthony. She then arrived at the BAFTA gala in Los Angeles on July 9 without her husband and supposedly not wearing her wedding ring. Everyone noticed that Marc was missing this time because the couple was supposed to be guests of honor at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s table at the gala. Instead, it was Jennifer’s mom that accompanied her daughter and got to meet the Duke and Duchess. Now, just a week later, they confirmed the rumors with the announcement of their divorce.

The couple wed in June 2004 and has two children together, 3-year-old twins Max and Emme.

No word on how Paris Hilton is feeling right now, but her ex Cy Waits thinks their breakup was inevitable. He said in a recent interview that he knew the split was coming.

“I don’t want to speak for Paris, but this breakup is something I knew for a number of months needed to happen – and we finally saw eye to eye.”

He also added that he now plans to get back to focusing on his career rather than a relationship. He took some slight jabs at Hilton during the interview too. He listed numerous characteristics he looks for in a relationship, including “honesty, strong values, true communication, commitment, mutual trust and respect,” and claims he didn’t have these in his most recent relationship. Then, Waits hinted that Hilton’s lifestyle was too crazy for him.

“When I’m involved with someone, my focus is keeping them safe, trying to keep them out of trouble and always being supportive. Partying is not my thing. I live a healthy lifestyle. I avoid drugs. … I have a social cocktail every now and then.”

Paris didn’t respond to requests for comment in response to what Cy said.

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis have called it quits after 2 years together.

The former couple released a joint statement Wednesday to address the split.

“We are not together anymore. It’s very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.”

Canalis’ publicist also added that Elisabetta will not speak to the press until she takes some personal time for herself. She also wouldn’t reveal exactly when the breakup happened.

Clooney, 50, and Canalis, 32, went public with their relationship in September 2009 and were spotted just last week having dinner together in Italy.

Elisabetta opened up about her relationship with Clooney in a recent interview, calling their life together a “fairytale.” She also revealed that although she’s happy for now, she plans on getting married in the future. Maybe these comments didn’t sit well with George. It seems like he’ll never be the marrying type.

Amanda Seyfried and Ryan Phillippe have called it quits – again.

The pair first met at a Halloween party held by Kate Hudson last year and dated for a few months before breaking up in February. They reunited for a while and Seyfried even stayed by Phillippe’s side when news broke that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his baby. Still, they now announced that they’re breaking up again.

According to one source, the decision to split was mutual. Apparently Amanda and Ryan were never even exclusive.

“They were always on and off. They were always seeing other people.”

There’s “no bad blood” between the two and they will remain friends.

Hayden Panettiere announced her split from boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko less than two weeks ago, and it seems like she’s already moving on to another sports star.

She’s been spotted out and about with New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. The two were first seen together at a pre-Oscar party in February. They talked privately for about a half-hour and sources say “the flirting was mutual.” Now, they were photographed together on Monday at an In-N-Out Burger in Laguna Hills, California.

In response to the rumors of a budding relationship, Hayden and Mark insist they are “just friends.” That’s the same thing everyone says, so who knows what’s actually going on between them.

Hayden, 21, dated Klitschko for two years before their recent split.

Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight have broken up after five years of marriage. Knight, 53, is best known for his role on the The Brady Bunch. Curry, 28,  was once a contestant on America’s Next Top Model. The two met on a TV show too when they were roommates on The Surreal Life. Once the two started dating, they continued their careers in reality television by starring in the show My Fair Brady, which documented their wedding and first year of marriage.

The former couple’s manager released a very positive statement attributing the split to not being able to work out their differences.

“After starting a relationship with what seemed to be irreconcilable differences, the couple has reached a period where those differences are no longer appreciated.”

They apparently reached the decision “mutually” and both agree that they need time to consider what will be best for the future of ”their unique union.”

Well, they’ve admitted that their relationship was doomed from the start and neither have any promising leads for more reality TV gigs. Sounds like life is going pretty well for both of them.
