Aretha Franklin has made it back home and is now recovering from surgery which was ‘highly successful’ for an undisclosed illness. Aretha is reportedly suffering from pancreatic cancer, but it has yet to be confirmed by her rep or herself. In a statement, Aretha said that she is receiving help from a nurse at home:

“I’ve been at home for almost three days now, my family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis.”

She says that she hopes to get out and about soon to attend some events which are on her to-do list:

“I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before Jan. 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the FOX before it closes.”

Her rep has also released a statement confirming that the singer has arrived safely at home:

“The Queen of Soul is in great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.”

According to People, Franklin’s cousin says that she has a long life to lead yet. They say Aretha:

“has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert, on stage, late spring or early summer.”
