American Idol “Controversies”

So, apparently the media is just now catching on to all the controversies about the American Idol contestants, the same ones that we posted about over a month ago. It’s true, only a handful of the contestants are non amatuers or new to the spotlight. So here’s a quick rundown for anyone who missed it or forgot:

Carly Hennessy-Smithson was signed to a major label deal, $2.2m was spent to promote her, and she sold about 400 albums. More suspiciously, she was apparently at MCA at the same time that Randy Jackson was the president of the record company (make of that what you will).

Robbie Carrico had a moderate hit in Europe with the pop group Boyz N Girlz United. He also dated Britney Spears briefly.

Kristy Lee Cook had a major label deal and was set to have Britney make a cameo in her debut video.

Michael Johns was signed to Maverick and his ex band claims he stole their songs (two sides to every story, folks).

TMZ is trying to make it seem like David Archeleta was a pro because he was on Jenny Jones a few years ago. Seriously?? Give me a break. He did however win Star Search when he was 12. Which still doesn’t make him a pro.

Alexandrea Lushington competed against him on the same season.

Joanne Borgella won Monique’s Fat Chance.

Jason Castro was featured on the show Cheyenne.

And I really find it amusing when some people assume this is the result of poor fact checking. Pffft. The people at Ai know and they really don’t care. They even put a grammy nominated artist into the top 50 (he dropped out because he got signed….to J records, I think)

So are they plants? Possibly, but who cares. It paid off for AI because they have such talented top 24 and you know what they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
