6 Stars Speak on Their Sex Tapes

Ah, celebrity sex tapes – where would we be without them? These 6 stars have all made sex tapes in the past, and have later spoken on how the tape has changed their lives, how they regret it, or for some, how it actually launched their career or made them turn their lives around. Many acknowledge that the sex tape is something that will be with them for the rest of their lives, while others are now trying to put it in the past.

Carrie Prejean

Former Miss California USA 2009 Carrie Prejean filmed private sex tapes for her boyfriend: “It was the worst mistake of my life, I was all by myself. I was sending my boyfriend at the time, who I loved and cared about, you know, video of me. I was a teenager at the time and never did I ever think it would come out.”

Rob Lowe

In 1988, Rob Lowe’s sex tape was released, and it involved two girls, one of whom was underage. Rob had met both girls at a bar before the tape was made, and believed the underager was at least 21-years-old. These days, after successfully relaunching his career after the scandal, he believes it was the best thing that happened to him: ‘It ends up being the greatest thing that ever happened to me, because what it ends up doing is accelerating my alcohol [addiction] to where I finally get sober. I have been able to have the rest of my life that I’m so blessed with, which is now 20 years of sobriety. It’s almost quaint to think about now, because now people do sex tapes to HELP their careers.”

Paris Hilton

A tape of Paris Hilton and then-boyfriend Rick Salomon having sex was released on the internet in 2003. She says that it’s now something she regrets and something she has to live with for the rest of her life:  “I didn’t want to be known as that, and now when people look at me they think that I’m something I’m not just because of one incident one night with someone who I was in love with. People assume ‘Oh, she’s a slut’ because of one thing that happened to me and it’s hard because I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life and explain it to my children. And it’s something that’s changed my life forever and I’ll never be able to erase it.”

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian’s tape with singer Ray J. also launched her career and is addressed in the first series of the now hit show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. It may have rocketed her to fame, but Kim says she has put it firmly behind her (no pun intended): “Not my most proud moment, it was humiliating. But now let’s move on. Not that I don’t think it’s no one’s business, but I think I’ve done a good job with replacing negative things with positive things.”

Kendra Wilkinson

Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson got a shock when an ex-boyfriend from her past decided to sell their old tapes. She thought he would have moved on since their relationship because he had got married and had children, but it still came back to haunt her: “We would have sex every couple of days and every now and then we would video tape it…It was for our eyes only, I heard through the grape vine that he got married and was having a baby, so I thought he would have a heart not to do what he did,I didn’t know I was going to be famous. It just had to come out now when I finally cleaned up my life.”

James Franco

James Franco made a sex tape when he was younger, and although it was never released, he did admit it was hard work: “Anybody who has made a home sex tape knows what feels best doesn’t always look best, I remember when I was 19 doing that, and then watching it back and thinking, ‘Oh, that looks horrible. So you have a lot of respect for those actors in pornography, because they are really not just doing it, they’re really selling it!”
